End of October 1954, Montarnaud, Hérault:

Reference for this case: End-Oct-54-Montarnaud.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

In his 1997 book "Le Dossier 1954 et l'Imposture Rationaliste", ufologist and author Jean Sider indicated that according to the newspaper Midi Libre, of Montpellier, of November 5, 1954 on page 4, there was at the end of October 1954 at night, in Montarnaud in the Hérault department, various short-distance observations of celestial luminous phenomena "which can be classified in the category of CE1", balls of white or red light "are noticed at ground level, rooftop level, etc."

Jean Sider indicates that among the witnesses mentioned by name were Mssrs. Pery, Py, Carrière, and Arnaud.

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

95 - End October, night, Montarnaud, Hérault.

These are various short-distance observations of celestial luminous phenomena that can be classified in the category of CE1. Balls of white or red light are noticed at ground level, at roof level, etc... No landings reported. Among the witnesses mentioned by name: MM. Pery, Py, Carrière, and Arnaud.

Local source: Midi Libre, Montpellier, November 5, 1954, p. 4.

The qualification "CE1", "Close Encounter of the 1st kind", was defined by American astronomer and ufologist Joseph Allen Hynek as a case where the witness(es) observe a UFO located at no more than 150 meters of them.

This case is unidentified to me; however, the information is very meager, so much that a misinterpretation cannot be excluded.
