October 7 or 8, 1954, Beaume-les-Dames, Doubs:

Summary:

In his 1997 book on the French wave of 1954, author Jean Sider indicated that according to the newspaper La République, of Besançon, on page 3 of the October 8-10, 1954 issue, there was an observation on October 7 or 8, 1954, at 5 o'clock in the morning at Baumes-les-Dames in the Doubs department.

An "anonymous young man saw at the bottom of a meadow a craft with the characteristics of a flying saucer."

The young man had alerted his employers and neighbors, who confirmed his words. The craft moved in the direction of the "Vignottes" and "disappeared" towards Champuans.

The witness was so frightened by what he saw that he had to stay in bed.

Reports:

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

French ufologist and author Jean Sider learned in an article from the newspaper La République, of Besancon, on page 3 in the edition of October 8-10, 1954, that on the 7th or on the 8th of October 1954, at 5 o'clock in the morning in Baumes-les-Dames in the department of the Doubs, an anonymous young man saw at the bottom of a meadow a machine having the characteristics of a flying saucer.

The young man alerted his employers and his neighbors, whom confirmed his statements. The machine moved in the direction of "Les Vignottes" and disappeared towards Champuans.

The witness was so frightened by what he saw that he had to stay confined to bed.

Explanations:

Map.

What a useless Press report...

"... a craft with the characteristics of a flying saucer..." does not mean anything, since we clearly have cases in which meteors, for example, have been called flying saucers.
