Summary:

In the Cambrai issue, the regional newspaper Nord-Matin for October 9, 1954, reported that there was a big stir "Wednesday" - thus on October 6, 1954 - at 07:15 p.m., in Sailly-les-Cambrai, because in the sky of the village a luminous ball coming from the direction of the north was observed, moving in horizontal flight. Then, suddenly, the ball went up vertically and changed shape, elongating and rising quickly.

This was observed for a few minutes by many people, and no noise came from the "craft"; which seemed to be quite far away.

The newspaper wondered if it was a "flying saucer."

Exactly the same report appeared in the regional newspaper La Voix du Nord, Cambrai issue, also on October 9, 1954.

Then suddenly the ascent became vertical, and the "thing", changing shape, lengthened and rose rapidly.

  • Explanations:

    Sailly-lez-Cambrai

I would think of a meteor, if the duration was a bit exaggerated - I do not have an obvious meteor at this date and hour. It could also have been a distant plane.
