Summary:

The regional newspaper La Vendée Libre for October 10, 1954, reported that on October 4, 1954, around 9:30 p.m., inhabitants of the villages of Rethelière and Pierre-Levée as well as several people from the neighborhoods de la Brachetière and Printemps, at the exit of the village of Poiré-sur-Vie on the road to La Roche-sur-Yon, Mrs. Piffeteau, Minaud and Buton, had seen in the sky, a dozen luminous objects of elongated shape.

The newspaper indicated that these objects were several meters long, red and green in color, and passed at a very high altitude and at a very high speed, so that they could only be observed for a few moments. Coming from the direction of the north they were heading towards the sea, without emitting the slightest noise.

Explanations:

Map.

Possible meteors.

Multiple meteors are rare but not non-existent; this occurs by breaking of an initial meteor into several pieces.

Another possibility is that it was the newspaper that interpreted a single meteor seen in multiple separate sightings by separate witnesses, as one sighting of multiple objects.
