October 27, 1954, Gargas, Vaucluse:

Reference for this case: 27-Oct-54-Gargas.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

Ufologist and author Jean Sider published in 1997 that an article from the newspaper Le Provençal for October 30, 1954, told that on October 27 at 08:00 p.m., in Gargas in the Vaucluse, a motorist saw at the locality "L'usine de Mr. Tamisier" a big red ball, motionless in a ditch.

The witness was so frightened that he preferred to drive away at full speed.

Reports:

[Ref. jsr1:] JEAN SIDER:

The ufologist and author Jean Sider learned by an article from the newspaper Le Provençal for October 30, 1954, that on October 27, 1954, at 08:00 p.m., in Gargas in the department of Vaucluse, a motorist saw at the locality "The Factory of Mr. Tamisier" a large motionless red ball in a ditch.

The witness who saw the machine was so frightened that he preferred to flee at full speed.

[Ref. lcn1:] LUC CHASTAN:

Luc Chastan indicates that in the Vaucluse in Gargas on October 27, 1954 at 20:00 hours "A motorist observes at the location the factory of MTamisier a large motionless red ball in a ditch. Frightened he moves away from there at high speed."

The source is indicated as "Lumières dans la Nuit".

Explanations:

Carte.

The information is very poor: no distance, duration, direction, apparent size... And no trace of a ufology investigation on this observation.

Was it a red moon at the horizon? I checked the location of the moon on this date, time, and place.

The location of Gargas is 43° 54' 09" North, 5° 21' 26" East.

This explanation does not hold, since the Moon went below the horizon at 05:34 p.m. The case thus remains "unidentified", but it is of a quite low strangeness.
