The regional newspaper Le Courrier de Saône-et-Loire of October 26, 1954, reported that the day before, around 6:30 a.m., while on his way to work and located in Saint-Jean-des-Vignes, Mr. M..., a printing foreman living in Saint-Rémy, had seen in the dim morning light a fireball moving rather quickly from east to west, leaving behind it a short orange-colored trail.
Due to clouds and buildings obscuring the horizon, Mr. M... was only able to observe the object for 6 to 8 seconds.
