The author and ufologist Jean Sider reported in the 1990s a case of October 23, 1954, in Ernemont-sur-Buchy, Seine-Maritime, with two witnesses left in anonymity. Sider had found the story on page 1 of Le Bulletin de l'Arrondissement de Rouen, of Darnétal, in the Seine-Maritime, for October 29, 1954.
At 05:10 a.m., one of the witnesses was woken up by a night bird who fluttered against his window. He stood up and saw a crescent-shaped glow in the sky of an intensity he never had still seen.
The glow soon came to land about 300 meters from his house. The witness called his roommate and both of them then saw three shadows lit by a flashlight, which appeared to be moving in three different directions.
Then, for about an hour, until exactly 06:15 a.m., there was:
This was repeated twice and at 06:15 a.m. the intense light was again visible, comparable to a neon light, but much more powerful. Eventually, the witnesses observed a luminous trail in the sky, and the sighting ended.
The next day, one of the witnesses went to the place of the alleged landing and found that the grass had been trampled on the embankment on the Héronchelles road.
The journalist finished his article estimating the accuracy of the details provided by the two witnesses urged him not to doubt their testimony.
It would be the Mayor of the locality, Mr. Decorde, who would have directed the journalist to the homes of the witnesses.
[Ref. jsr1] JEAN SIDER:
The author reports a case of October 23, 1954, at 5:10 a.m. in Ernemont-sur-Buchy, in the Seine-Maritime, with two witnesses left in anonymity.
One of the witnesses was awakened by a night bird who fluttered against his window, he stood up and saw a glow in the sky, of an intensity he had never seen before, and crescent shaped.
"In less time than it takes to say", it came to land about 300 meters from his house. The witness called his roommate and both of them were able to see three shadows lit by a flashlight, which appeared to be moving in three different directions.
Then, for about an hour, until exactly 06:15 a.m., these things happen:
Jean Sider indicates that all these maneuvers were repeated a second time, and at 06:15 a.m. the intense light was again visible, comparable to a neon lighting, but much more powerful. Finally, the witnesses observed an illuminating trail in the sky, and "the sound and light show ends."
The next day, one of the witnesses went to the place of the alleged landing and found that the grass had been trampled on the embankment on the Héronchelles road.
The journalist ended his article by admitting that the precision of the details delivered by the two witnesses incite him to not question their testimony.
According to the source, it was the Mayor of the locality, Mr. Decorde, who directed the journalist to the homes of the witnesses.
Jean Sider indicates that the source is Le Bulletin de l'Arondissement de Rouen, of Darnétal, Seine-Maritime, for October 29, 1954, on page 1.
Jean Sider comments that the "sorrowful minds will always be able to say that it was at best a helicopter transporting some smugglers having rendezvous with accomplices". But he notes that there is the problem of this intense lighting that lacks discretion, the speed of the land, "which are at odds with the rationalist mindset." He adds that "As for ETH buffs, they can gargle in thinking it is proof that 'they' live among us!'

[Ref. jgz1:] JULIEN GONZALEZ:
This author indicates that there was a close encounter of the third kind in Ernemont-sur-Buchy, Seine-Maritime, on October 23, 1954, at 05:10, with two anonymous witnesses.
He indicates that one of the witnesses was woken up by a night owl which came fluttering against his window; he stood up and saw a glow in the sky, of an intensity he had never seen before, and in the shape of a crescent.
In less time than it takes to tell, it landed about 300 meters from the house, so the witness called his roommate. Both were then able to see three shadows lit as by a flashlight, appearing to move away in three different directions. From there, and for about an hour, until 6:15 exactly, weird things happened, successively: a moped-like engine noise was heard, then the lights went out and on again. After that and finally the three shadows reappeared before an automobile came by. It was then that all the lights went out again. All of these maneuvers were repeated a second time, and at 6:15 a.m. the intense light was again visible, comparable to neon lighting, but much more powerful. Eventually, the witnesses observed an illuminating trail in the sky, and the show came to an end. The next day, one of the witnesses went to the site of the alleged landing and found that the grass had been trodden there.

There are at least three "Ernemont" in France:
In a listing "Etude de la vague de 1954" at www.ovnis.atfreeweb.com/ovnistat.pdf there is an entry "Ernemont-sur-Buchy (Seine-Maritime) - 41 min sans ECS 41"
Although there is the lack of discretion mentioned by Jean Sider, it does not appear to me that this incident would have anything to do with aliens.
I cannot assess with certainty what happened, especially as I do not have the original newspaper report; but too many features (the car, the moped noise) point out to some human activities, and - maybe that is the key point - all this seems to have been sighted from the very long distance of 300 meters.
(These keywords are only to help queries and are not implying anything.)
