The regional newspaper La Voix du Nord, in their issue for the Artois and the Somme for October 2, 1954, reported:
An intense emotion reigned yesterday, in Cayeux-sur-Mer, on the occasion of the discovery, in a pasture, 300 meters from the sea, of a spherical-shaped machine which, at the beginning, much intrigued the population and the gendarmes. This machine was made of two black cork-like caps. The sphere was attached to a parachute and contained, among other things, three batteries, a box with radio lamps and another box with a capacitor; the craft emitted a continuous noise, similar to a transmission in Morse code.
The gendarmes who seized the machine, transported it to the gendarmerie section of Abbeville.
From some indications on the batteries, it is assumed that it may be the tests of a weather balloon launched in Great Britain and whose fall was cushioned by the parachute.
