In 1979, ufologists Michel Figuet and Jean-Louis Ruchon wrote that on the sidelines of the observations of September 10 and 12, 1954 in the area of Quarouble, another strange event took place: two cows were found dead in a pasture two or three days after the observation of Marius Dewilde. The death of the two animals was suspect because, according to these authors, the autopsy showed that they were completely emptied of their blood without any trace of visible wound on the body.
In the 2000s, on Jerome Beau's website RR0, it was told that on September 13, 1954, "one" discovered "3" dead cows "in a pasture near Dewilde's. An autopsy will reveal that the animals were emptied of their blood." No source was given.
This latter version would be copied on dozens of other websites; giving the impression that there was a case of "cattle mutilation" on September 13, 1954, in Quarouble in France, three days after the alleged encounter of Marius Dewilde, and as if Dewilde had no part in the discovery of these dead cows.
But in reality, things are different.
The local "skeptical" ufologist Dominique Caudron indicates that the first appearance of this story comes from statements by Marius Dewilde himself, who said in an interview with Jacques Lob published in 1976 in Imagine magazine Nr 2:
"... there is something else too: two or three days after the first observation, one found three dead cows in a pasture next door... And according to the autopsy that was done by the veterinarian of Valenciennes and a military veterinarian, the animals were drained of their blood... and no trace of injury."
When Lob asked him if he saw this, or if it was told to him, Dewilde answered:
"I saw the animals when they took them to do the autopsy, I remember that the vet told me, "You, with your saucers, you killed three cows!" But afterwards, I did not hear about it anymore."
Dominique Caudron indicates that "the testimonies of the neighbors deny this story, well in keeping with the mythology of cattle mutilations."
The second appearance of the story was in Roger-Luc Mary's highly fictional book on the adventures of Marius Dewilde, "Ne Résistez Pas Aux Extraterrestres" ("Do Not Resist the Aliens"), published in 1980. Dewilde tells, or at least is said to tell:
I forgot to report an important incident that occurred the day after the first landing: on Saturday, September 11, 1954, a cattle dealer and a farmer came to warn me that an abnormal mortality of cattle had occurred. I spoke of this incident to a veterinarian who, very interested, moved to conduct the autopsy of a cattle. As a result, the veterinarian appeared very surprised: he quickly left by car without providing any explanation.
In the hours that followed, crane trucks removed the bodies of the animals and put them in sheeted vehicles. I learned later that the cattle had been transported to the Paris region, in Maisons-Alfort, for general autopsy and thorough analysis. These animals had been emptied of their blood and spine, they were totally bloodless, no trace of injury or sting.
This statement was made by the veterinarian himself, to whom several people insisted on knowing the end of the story. I was present. The vet advised "caution" and... silence! This same veterinarian still had to worry me about his "caution" advice about my dog. We will come back to this. The place where the corpses of the cattle were found was located 300 meters from the place where the ship landed. I had pointed this out to Marc Thirouin who, at my request, did not record it in his investigation. Unfortunately, neither Thirouin, nor Guieu, nor Carrouges could say anything, because I was myself literally "gagged". A quarter of a century has passed, I resisted the urge to speak much, just as I "resisted" those [the aliens] who dictated a message to me. Today, I want to tell everything, without omitting anything, without adding anything, and too bad for those who find that the truth is not always good to formulate.
I therefore note that the case has no independent confirmation, that it is made of Marius Dewilde's own late claims (1976) on this affair of dead cows, that the case was even denied by his neighbors according to Dominique Caudron, that the dead cows were not found on September 11 or 12 or 13, 1954.

When they made their comic strip, Lob and Gigi could not find out directly from Dewilde. But thanks to Michel Leproust, Jacque Lob will be able to get in touch with Dewilde, and ask him what he thinks of his reconstitution. While Ms. Nelly Mansart had not recognized anything in the board that concerns her (except the distance to Amiens), Marius Dewilde just points out that the heads of small beings is much too big. But it must be said that Jacques Lob hardly asked him what he thought of the sketch of the little beings.
This interview, made in 1975, and published in Imagine No. 2, in 1976, is very interesting because it shows what the witness still stuck to his initial observation, and the false memories he had incorporated from the ufological mythology.
