In his 1999 book "Le Problème de la Vie Extraterrestre" ("The Problem of Extraterrestrial Life"), ufologist Michel Jeantheau reports what he found in the weekly newspaper La Gazette de Redon for December 17, 1954, under the headline "Damgan - mysterious apparatuses in the sky":
Saturday evening, around 6:30 p.m., Mr. Jean Rio, retired city councilor from the P.T.T., went like every evening to take his milk from Mr. Joseph Le Bodo, farmer-owner in the town, Mr. Rio saw strangely shaped apparatuses in the sky, he reported the fact to M. Le Bodo, who followed by his daughters came outside immediately and all could then see two clouds in the shape of a spindle, very transparent, one seeming to swing above the other. Suddenly these craft separated and one took the direction of the north, the other that of the south. At the time of the separation, each of these (clouds) launched a very bright luminous projection, towards the earth, which gave the shape of a very large V having the point to the ground. The same (clouds) were seen in Pénerf and in the various villages of the commune.

And this is not a unique case. Other testimonies mention this transparency, such as example n° 25, which is in the weekly La Gazette de Redon, from Redon (Ille-et-Vilaine, 35) on Friday December 17, 1954, page 3:
DAMGAN
MYSTERIOUS CRAFT IN THE SKY
Saturday evening, around 6:30 p.m., Mr. Jean Rio, retired city councilor from the P.T.T., went like every evening to take his milk from Mr. Joseph Le Bodo, farmer-owner in the town, Mr. Rio saw strangely shaped apparatuses in the sky, he reported the fact to M. So "UFOs" can be transparent. A detail that deserves to be taken into consideration, how to defend the hypothesis of material craft with such particularities? Unless you imagine gear craft entirely of glass or plastic? Note also this luminous projection, which once again highlights the radiated nature of the phenomenon.
A quite extraordinary case that has remained totally unknown in the ufological literature. This is one of the examples which show that whereas the "flying saucers" disappeared from the national press at the end of the 1954 French flap, they were still in local newspapers.
There were multiple witnesses, unfortunately what was seen in Plenerf and the other villages is not really described. I do not see what could explain the sighting, the "least worst" explanation would be that it was clouds and lightning, but the sudden "separation" of the two things, one to the north the other to the south, makes such an explanation rather dubious.
I therefore note: possible extraterrestrial visitors.
