UFOs in the daily Press:

Flying discs, Rome, Italy, 1962:

The article below was published in the daily newspaper La Liberté de l'Est, France, on December 25, 1962.

He saw them, but what were they?

Rome. -- Three boatmen on Lake Maggiore claim to have seen flying discs.

According to the boatmen, the craft was motionless twenty meters above the water when they saw it a kilometer away from their boat. It rose slowly after having glided silently at great speed over the water. Having gained altitude, the disc, whose shape resembled that of an English helmet, began to sparkle. It was then joined by another craft of the same type and moved away after it, leaving the three boatmen stunned. One of them said: "When I heard about flying saucers I laughed, of course. Now I don't want to. I don't believe, however, that the two craft we saw came from another planet. They could very well be new types of American, British or Soviet aircraft. One thing is certain: I saw them."
