The article below was published in the daily newspaper La Prensa, Buenos Aires, Argentina, on March 19, 1999.
Mar del Plata. -- Reports of sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) increased during 1998 by more than 22% compared to 1997. Likewise, the province of Buenos Aires continues to be the one that records the greatest number of apparitions, with 37% of the total cases reported.
This is how the annual report on UFO cases defended yesterday by the Argentine UFO Network (RAO), created in 1991 in Mar del Plata, and which brings together 44 research centers on this phenomenon throughout the country, is recorded.
According to the study, a total of 87 UFO apparitions were reported in 1998, exceeding by 22.5% the 71 cases recorded in 1997, although, in the last ten years, "the year of greatest activity" remains that of 1994, which recorded no less than 140 cases.
"The UFO phenomenon in Argentina maintains the constants of previous years" indicates the RAO, specifying that what is called "the hourly law" is maintained inflexibly with a majority of observations between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., followed by the early morning hours of dawn (between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.). The report indicates that the province of Buenos Aires is the one that has had the greatest number of UFO observations throughout the year with 33 "approved" cases. Then follow the provinces of Cordoba with 14 cases recorded, La Pampa with 12 cases, Santa Cruz and Rio Negro with 4 cases.
