JULY 17, 2003, 2008, DENVER, COLORADO, USA, STAN ROMANEK:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

On May 29, 2008, I opened this file, probably one of the most surrealistic case I ever dealt with: in an article from a Denver newspaper's website, a man claims that he will show the authentic video of a live alien... tomorrow!

At least this is what the headline says. The article says only that the video will be "shown to the news media Friday in Denver" and will be part of a "UFO documentary" that will be sold in some months.

The claimant is Jeff Peckman, 54, who had engaged in an initiative to convince city officials to get ready for the alien presence on earth. Mr. Peckman claims the video is authentic, the only information about it is that it is shot in infrared and shows a 4-feet tall alien blinking eyes while peering through a window.

Mr Peckman seems to have organized some public shows in conference where the video might be shown but it is intended that nobody makes a copy before the documentary is out.

The forthcoming documentary is by Stan Romanek, already known in ufology circles for claimed sightings since age 5 and several alleged UFO videos, one of them he calls the "most documented in the world". His website is at www.stanromanek.com

May 31, 2008, a still image taken from the video (below) was published on the website of the newspaper. It shows that there is no proof at all but just of a video already seen, one of many that Stan Romanek claims to have shot during his alien/UFOs encounters, already seen by ufologists, who obviously do not believe that this kind of things are "proof".

On June 2, 2008, CNN's Larry King presented the affair in his show Larry King Live, and Stan Romanek told that he took the video at his place on July 17, 2003 in the night, a full moon night. He already seen aliens peering in his window, and scientists asked him to set up video camera on a tripod in night vision mode, and to make pretence to go to bed.

He did that, except that he stayed in a next room instead of going to bed that evening, and saw the alien peering into his home. Stan Romanek said he went in his back yard to see the alien and saw him run away, and look back at him at some point.

Questioned on the reasons why video has not been shown yet publicly after 5 years, he said that "researchers and scientists" had to study it. Questioned on the fact that it was shown now only to Press people in Denver, he apparently answered that "the scientists" are still studying the video and "many physical evidence", and that if it was for him he would have shown the video.

[Ref. rm1:] ROCKY MOUTAIN NEWS:

One writer Daniel J. Chacon, from the Rocky Mountain News, published on the web site of that newspaper, at 03:15 p.m., May 28, 2008, with an apparent update at 07:01 p.m., May 28, 2008, that one Jeff Peckman, who is pushing a ballot initiative "to create an Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission in Denver to prepare the city for close encounters of the alien kind", claimed he has an "authentic" video that convinced him that aliens exist.

Jeff Peckman, 54, said that the video is "impressive", but still only a "tiny portion in the context of a vast amount of peripheral evidence." He said the video is "really the final visual confirmation of what you already know to be true having seen all the other evidence."

Apparently, Mr. Peckman went before city officials this month to discuss his proposed ET initiative, and promised to show the video. We are told that "the general public will have to wait" to see it because it's being included in a documentary by Stan Romanek, so no one will be allowed to film the segment with the extraterrestrial because there is an agreement in place limiting that kind of exposure during negotiations for the documentary.

But he also says that an open public meeting in about a month in Colorado Springs and maybe one in Denver "at some point", and then in a few months, anybody can have documentary including the "footage."

Peckman says that "an instructor at the Colorado Film School in Denver" scrutinized the video "very carefully" and "determined it was authentic."

Peckman said the video shows an extraterrestrial's head popping up outside of a window at night, looking in the window, "visible through an infrared camera." We are told the alien is about 4 feet tall and can be seen blinking, according to what Peckman said "earlier this month."

In a statement, Peckman said "other related credible evidence" proving aliens exist will be shown at Friday's news conference, too.

The newspaper's contact person for the article is indicated as "chacond@RockyMountainNews.com or 303-954-5099".

[Ref. lk1:] "LARRY KING LIVE":

Popular host Larry King discussed the alleged video in his June 2, 2008 show on CNN.

He said a Colorado man, Stan Romanek, claims to have shot a video of a live alien peeking in through his window, and Jeff Peckman is pushing for the city of Denver to establish a commission to deal with "extraterrestrial affairs."

The guests of the TV show are Stan Romanek; Jeff Peckman; James Meadow, a reported from Denver; Matthew Baxter from the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Society; and Jerry Hoffman, a professor at the Colorado film school.

Larry King first asks Stan Romanek when he taped it and what he saw.

Stan Romanek answers it was July 17, 2003. He says that at night every once in a while, he used to get up to the kitchen to watch TV. The window was opened and he saw a head and some movements in the window. Every time he run outside to catch what he thought was looking into the window, there was nobody there.

He said he talked to "researchers and scientists" involved in his case, and they told him that the next time it happens he should use a video camera, put it in night vision mode, put it on a tripod, and pretend to go to bed, and he did exactly that, except that instead of going to bed, he sat in the next room with a magazine in hope that he could see it.

Larry King notes that this was 5 years ago and asks why the video only comes out now.

Stan Romanek answers that there are a lot of things involved with his case, a lot of evidence. He hesitates, and says that there is "a lot of scientists and researchers involved" in his case.

Larry King asks him what he means by "his case".

Stan Romanek answers that there is a lot of encounters involved with his case, a lot of UFO encounters, and a lot of physical evidence, and he wanted to make sure that all the evidence had been looked up by serious scientists. He would have given up all this, but the scientists told him that he should let them look at the evidence before he goes public.

Larry King asks reported James Meadow about the video he had seen. Meadow says he saw it, that it is a little bit odd, that on one end it is a bit spooky to think that it might be an alien, but "to tell you the truth, there's not much there, we only saw about 1 or 2 minutes, it's greeny, it's dark, there's kind of a skull-shaped head that floats up, dark space for the eyes, and it looked a bit like the "glow-in-the-dark" alien heads he saw in Roswell [gift shop items]. He clearly says that we are told the video shows an alien but he does not know that for a fact.

Larry King asks around again why the video can't be shown, and Stan Romanek answers that "we" have an agreement with the scientists not to do that because of their analyzing it. Larry King wonders again: "it's been 5 years and it's been shown to the Rocky Mountain News". Stan Romanek answers that "they" want to scrutinize it correctly, that he would have shown it if it was only for him.

Larry King then discusses with Jeff Peckman, who says it is very convincing to him but it is only one small part of hundreds of experiences Stan Romanek had and "top secret evidence of employees of the government".

Larry Kink asks Jerry Hoffman, instructor at the colorado film school for his analysis. He answers that it was definitely shot with a consumer camera, on a DV tape he analyzed, it is the last shot at the end of other movies he shot earlier at the zoo, the time code is consistent through the tape, that you can see the reflection of the back wall in the glass of the window, the reflection is over the creature's face so it is definitely on the other side of the window and to create that "with that particular format" [DV] is "extremely difficult".

Stan Romanek show a drawing he did of the creature:

Stan Romanek says that maybe the video "they" showed at the press conference was not of high quality, but if you actually look at the video you can see the alien move its mouth, blink its eyes, the reflection of the infrared light reflecting on.

Larry King then talks to Matthew Baxter from the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Society, who saw the video, asks what he makes out of it, and Matthew Baxter explains that he does not believe it. He believes it is a hoax there was "basically an alien model there. A prop."

Stan Romanek answers that a video was put on Youtube to show that it can be done and "it is amazing how debunkers..."

Matthew Baxter then reveals that he made the video on Youtube.

Above: the re-enactment video by Matthew Baxter
of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Society was shown as an insert during the show.

Larry King then discusses with Jeff Peckman, who claims that hundreds of secret agents have evidence of aliens etc. and that in this instance the video was the best evidence "we" could present and he was doing that just to satisfy the curiosity of people.

Larry King turns to Jerry Hoffman, who says that he does not have any proof that Stan Romanek filmed an alien but that he has "a hard time believing a cheap prop was used for this" and that the movement of the puppet is "so elaborate, it would be a very expensive puppet to make." He does not know if it was a puppet or an alien but knows it was not done on a computer system.

Matthew Baxter explains that Stank Romanek is a very nice guy, that he met him, that he likes him, but it is his evidence that are not good, and that maybe someone played a prank at Stan Romanek. He points out that "there is a lot of money to be made with Stan right now."

Larry King asks Stan Romanek when the world will see this video, and romanek answers that it depends on the scientists. He adds that he saw this alien, that it was a full moon night, and that he saw the alien running in the back yard, that the alien looked back at him and so he realized that thing was not normal and he was very scared, and that before, he was very skeptic about things like that and use to laugh at it.

Matthew Baxter says his experience is opposite, that he used to believe in the past. He explains that it is hard to say if Stan Romanek saw something or not, but what people are shown is not evidence.

It is then discussed whether it makes sense that an alien would travel to Earth to peek into Stan Romanek's window rather than go directly to President G.W. Bush. Jerry Hoffman says the frame from the video is only the "tip of the iceberg" and that it would be arrogant to think we are alone in the Universe.

Larry King asks Stan Romanek if there was any sounds, and Romanek says there wasn't but there was two very short flashes of light and that this was what caught his attention.

Points to consider:

Am I, you are, supposed to believe that the video is "authentic" (whatever this means) in advance?

I don't. I can offer theories about it, however:

And some note:

Tomorrow has come, where's the proof?

This is what Mr Peckman allowed to be published by the newspaper [rm2]:

Yes, that's what some call proof!

Yes, that's what all the fuss was about: a video of an alleged alien that ufologist already saw and rightfully shrugged at: no proof at all, just one of the videos Mr. Stan Romanek claims to be authentic.

Addition on June 2, 2008:

Someone published a video on the web [Ref. rm1] saying that it is the video that the promoters did not want to publish yet but that it was leaked anyway. Nope, it is not obviously the same video, but a video presented elsewhere as being a "reconstitution" of what had been shown on the video:

Addition on June 4, 2008:

This is what we learn from the Larry King Live show [lk1] two days before:

The video now has a date: July 17, 2003. It still does not have a place, except for the information that it was Stan Romanek's home.

Stan Romanek says there was a full moon that night.

Thus, the place should be found, and then, it can bechecked wether there was or was not a full moon there at this date.
