DECEMBER 12, 1978, BURGHAUSEN, BAVARIA, GERMANY, ADELE HOLZER:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

In a sensationalist ufology bulletin and two of his books, journalist and author Michael Hesemann reported that on December 12, 1978 near Burghausen, at 08:00 a.m., secretary Adele Holzer, aged 49, was driving in her car to her workplace, from Neuoetting towards Burghausen. Arriving near Emmerting at a rise for the bridge of Alzkanal, she notices above the rising sun a white shining disc "not larger than a hand." The object puzzled her enough so that although she was already slightly late, she stopped on a parking to observe it.

Sat in its car, she noticed that the object flew towards her noiselessly at a high speed, while being still with a considerable height of perhaps 700 meters. When she gets out of her car, the object goes down and stops at a few 70 meters height, seeming to be directly on the top of the trees of the parking space. She now distinguishes on the lower part three hemispheres of which that of the middle seems larger than the two others. She sees three yellow or oranges points on the object. When she thinks that she would like to also see the object from the "front side", the object immediately seems to turn consequently, and she then sees approximately 10 or 12 round portholes with a greenish gleam behind them. Then greenish luminous rays suddenly spout out of the object, six times and during approximately 1 second.

She felt like paralyzed and did no feel frightened at all: "I had the feeling that somebody want to contact me telepathically. I obtained this contact. One communicated to me: "Don't be afraid, we are peaceful; we only want to observe you! We want to preserve you of a misfortune! We want to prevent that you destroy your planets! We want peace, that you don't destroy yourselves!" All was positive. I cannot give an account of it literally... I heard neither voice, nor saw beings. I saw clearly and in the range of the hand only the aerial object on me. I did not have the feeling of time passing by, and it was communicated to me briefly as on this subject that something about time is different. Then the object rose without noise, and disappeared quickly."

Another driver, anonymous however, was on the parking space but the witness did not dare to call him. She believes that he was also impressed by the object and that he received the same message too. She stated that her Timex watch was stopped on 08:01, which she noted at her office, whereas the battery had been changed not long ago, and that its ignition key was strongly twisted during the sighting. Hesemann received the twisted key 2 years later, it showed scratches; however the witness managed to use it to start the car then.

It seems that she later stated than the extraterrestrial beings told her that they came from a binary stellar system, traveling by a "interdimensional" astronautics, and than their people just like mankind all originate from planet Phaeton, "the first of this system of five planets" that its inhabitants destroyed in a chain reaction of atomic explosions. The survivors initially fled to Mars, then to the Earth and other planets. These extraterrestrial contacted the scientists of the Earth and some of their people live in hiding among mankind. The aliens communicated that they contacted Adele Holzer because she "lived on Phaeton in a former life."

Adele Holzer is said to have ensured Michael Hesemann that she had no previous interest in UFOs, but skeptic German ufologist Werner Walter notes that she was a member of an esoteric group affiliated with the association that publishes the bulletin in which her story initially appeared in 1980.

[Ref. ug1:] UFO-GEHEMNISSE:

In this bulletin, Michael Heseman indicates that on December 12, 1978, in the German Federal Republic, towards Neuötting, Burghausen, Adele Holzer, 43 years old, was driving on the 15 kilometers between Neuötting towards Burghausen to go to work, she saw a UFO and stopped on a car park to observe it. It was a shining white disc which flew quickly towards it, and hovered 70 meters above the tree tops. She was taken in a light green ray, felt a mild paralysis in all her body and had the feeling of a telepathic contact. Without hearing any voice, she felt an intense telepathic communication which went:

"Don't be afraid, we are here with peaceful intentions, to observe you, to prevent a disaster and to prevent that Men destroy the Earth. We come from a binary system and we travel across space using the interdimensional space voyage. We contact men, because we are of the same origin, planet Phaeton, first of five planets of this stellar system, that their inhabitants destroyed in a nuclear chain reaction. The survivor initially flew about Mars, then towards the Earth and other planets. We contacted your scientists and some of us live in secrecy among mankind. We contacted you because in a former incarnation, you lived on Phaeton."

After this experience, the ignition key of her car was twisted, and she had difficulty to start the car again.

The article comments on that Phaeton was the son of Helios, the sun, in Greek mythology, and that "according to the law of Titus-Bode" there was to be formerly a planet between Mars and Jupiter, and that "the astronomers and the scientists have speculated for a long time" that planet Phaeton had been there.

[Ref. go1:] GODELIEVE VAN OVERMEIRE:

The Belgian ufologist indicates that on December 12, 1978 in Germany, between Neuötting and Burghausen, Adele Holzer, aged 43, drove the 15 km between these two cities to go to her work. She saw a ufo and parked her car to observe. The saucer arrived at alarming speed, then was immobilized at 70 m above the trees. A green ray came out of there and she felt paralysed and at the same time as she had the feeling of a telepathic contact: she must not fear, they are nice, they come from a binary system (with two suns) and claim that the Earthmen and them have the same origins on the planet Phaeton (5 planets) where all the inhabitants perished in an atomic chain reaction. The survivors are on Mars. After this message, Mrs. Holzer's the ignition key remains curved, it is a souvenir.

Godelieve van Overmeire comments on that in the Greek mythology Phaeton is the son of the sun-god Helios, travelling "in such a lame carriage that it set the Earth ablaze..." and she indicates that the source is "Mitarbeiter, 'Ufo Geheimnisse', Berlin, Januar 1998."

[Ref. mu1:] MUFON-CES:

MUFON-CES counts this case for statistics and lists it as having taken place in Burghausen on December 12, 1978, 8 o'clock, with 1 witness, and having the specificity that the object sent four rays of "solid light" downwards. The indicated source is "UFO Nachrichten" for December 1980.

[Ref. ww1:] WERNER WALTER:

Werner Walter takes again the account of this case, indicating the source as an article by Michael Hesemann in the bulletin "UFO-Nachrichten" for November-December 1980.

He indicates that the case occurred on December 12, 1978 close to Burghausen, at 08:00 a.m.. Secretary Adele Holzer who had been employed formerly in a lawyer's office drove in her car as she did every working day from Neuoetting in the direction of the south-east towards Burghausen to go to work at her office. While arriving near Emmerting towards a rise to the bridge of Alzkanal, she noticed, above the rising sun, a white shining disc not larger than a hand. The object puzzled her enough so that, although she was already a bit late for work, she stopped on a parking space to observe the phenomenon at ease. Sitting in the car, she noticed that the object flew without noise at a high speed towards her, while being still at a considerable height, perhaps 700 meters. She went out of the car. At that moment, the object went down and stopped at some 70 meters high. It seemed to be directly on the tops of the trees of the parking space. Adele Holzer now distinguished on the "lower part" three hemispheres, of which that in the middle seemed larger than the two others. She saw three yellow or oranges points on the object. As she wished to also see it from the side, the object immediately seemed to turn consequently, so that she now saw approximately 10 or 12 round port-holes with a greenish gleam behind.

Then pointed and greenish luminous rays suddenly spout out of the flying object, six times and during approximately a second. She felt like paralyzed and did not feel any fear: "I had the feeling that somebody wanted to contact me by telepathy. I obtained this contact. One communicated to me: "Don't be afraid, we are peaceful; we want only to observe you! We want to preserve you of a misfortune! We want to prevent that you destroy your planets! We want peace, that you do not destroy yourselves!" All that was positive. I cannot give an account of it literally... I heard neither voice, nor saw beings. I saw only the aerial object on me, clearly and within touching range. I did not have the feeling of time passing, and it was communicated to me briefly about this, as something that was different about time. Then the object rose without, and disappeared quickly." Another anonymous driver however was on the parking space but the witness did not dare to call. She believes that he was also impressed by the object and that he received the same communication she received.

Adele Holzer stated that her Timex watch stopped on 08:01, which she noted at her office, although the battery had been changed not long ago, and that her ignition key was strongly twisted during the observation. Hesemann received the twisted key 2 years later, it showed scratches, however the witness managed to use it to start her car again.

Werner Walter indicates that although Adele Holzer stated to Hesemann not to have had any interest in ufology [sic] before, she was all the same member of a small local "group", attached to the DUIST group and animated by Dr. Wolfram Fragner and who was about strongly esoteric topic. Werner Walter indicates that as can be read in his CENAP report #38 for April 1979, just at the moment of Mrs. Holzer's sighting, there was a flap of flying saucers sightings hardly at a few tens of kilometers in Saaldorf, that the German medias and TV carried at the national level in at least two reports.

[Ref. in1:] ON THE INTERNET:

A German website devoted to UFO topics indicates that on December 12, 1978, Adele Holzer, aged 43, hit the 15 km from Neuoetting towards Burghausen in the German federal republic to go to work, she sees a UFO and stops on a parking space to observe it.

It is a white shining disc which flies quickly towards her, stops at 70 meters above the tree tops. Adele Holzer is seized in a luminous green ray, feels a paralysis of all her body and has the feeling of a telepathic contact. She does not hear words but intensively feels however by telepathy these ambassador like remarks:

"Don't be afraid, we are here with peaceful intentions, to observe you, to avoid a disaster and to prevent that men destroy the Earth. We come from a binary system and cross the distances by a interdimensional astronautics. We contact men, because we all come from planet Phaeton, the first of this system of five planet of this stellar system which inhabitants were destroyed in a chain reaction of atomic explosions. The survivors fled initially to Mars, then to Earth and other planets. We contacted your scientists and some of us live unidentified among the men. We contacted you, because you lived on Phaeton in a former life."

After this experience, the ignition key of Mrs. Holzer was twisted, she had to force to make it enter to start her car.

One of the websites publishing this same account indicates as source "Mitarbeiter, UFO Geheimnisse, Berlin, January 1998." Others indicate "Hesemann, UFOs: Die Kontakte, page 3." Most do not provide any source.

[Ref. in2:] ON THE INTERNET:

Another version circulating on the German-speaking Internet with source indication "Hesemann: UFOs: Die Beweise, S. 97" indicates that on December 12, 1978 in Burghausen/Neuötting, in Bavaria, Adele Holzer met a UFO on the way to her workplace, which came upon her, was in form of a cup with circular port-holes. She was swept by green rays and received a telepathic message:

"No fear, we come in a peaceful intention. We are here to observe you and preserve you of a misfortune. We want to prevent that you destroy your Earth."

When Mrs. Holzer came back to her senses, she saw that the key of the car was folded and that the watch was stopped. She added thereafter that she received additional information on her origin. They would come from a binary system. They came into contact with men, because, like we do, they come from planet Patheon [sic], which was formerly the 5th planet of our stellar system that its inhabitants destroyed in a chain reaction of atomic explosions. The survivors initially fled to Mars, and then on the Earth and other planets. Some of them would live hidden among us.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Burghausen, Bavaria, Germany, on December 12, 1978, at 0800 a.m., Adele Holzer was in her car traveling to work when she saw a hemispherical white disc. More puzzled than afraid she pulled off the side of the road, and saw a "row of shining green ports along its periphery." Then, she allegedly thought to herself, "If I could only see its bottom", when it suddenly turned. She reported that there were three spheres on its bottom surface, the middle one being larger. It possessed a bright orange spot at its center. As the UFO hovered over some nearby trees, six beams of green light shot from it; she felt "slightly paralyzed" by one of them. She lost track of time as the object hovered over her. When the light beams went out, the object rose up silently into the sky. Her watch had stopped at 0801A and the car's ignition key in her hand the entire time, was found to be bent. Later she told investigators that she felt "somebody was trying to get into telepathic contact with her." She claimed to have been given a message saying that they had friendly intentions...and wanted to stop us from destroying the earth.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "M Hessemann." [Sic, Hesemann].

[Ref. ni1:] "THE NICAP WEBSITE":

The website indicates that on December 12, 1978, in Burghausen, Bavaria, Germany, at 08:00 a.m., Ms. Adele Holzer was in her car driving to work when she saw a hemispherical white disc. More puzzled than afraid, she pulled off to the side of the road, and saw a "row of shining green ports along its periphery." Then, she thought to herself, "If I could only see its bottom," and it suddenly turned exposing the underneath. She said there were three spheres on its bottom surface, the middle one being larger. It possessed a bright orange spot at its center. As the UFO hovered over some nearby trees, six beams of green light shot from it and she felt slightly paralyzed by one of them. She lost track of time as the object hovered over her. When the light beams went out the object rose silently up into the sky. Points to consider:

The comments about planet "Phaeton" being a destroyed planet between Mars and Jupiter are typical of contactee nonsense attempted to be saved via some claimed "consistency" of the story told the aliens. There is however a funny glitch there: the claim is that they specified that they came from a binary star system, and ours is not.

The Titus-Bode law called upon here deserves comment. It was in the 18th century that astronomers wanted to find a mathematical formula that would describe a presumably harmonious solar system. Johannes Titus and Johann Bode then made up their law which at that time, seemed to make sense because it corresponded to the effective distances from the planets that were know at that time. But Neptune and Pluto, discovered later, did not fit in at all and the famous Titus-Bode law is now only an historical curiosity with no particular scientific relevance for astronomers. It is however correct that there is a distance between Mars and Jupiter that seems out of proportions compared to those between the planets nearer to the sun, and that although there is no planet there, an belt of many asteroids to which names from Greek mythology - Ceres, Pallas... - were given. These asteroids, some of them rather big, were actually was discovered when the planet which would miss according to the Titus-Bode law was searched by astronomers. Some estimated that the asteroid best was the remainders of the planet that had to be there and which had been destroyed in some collision, others estimate that the belt is the material that could have formed this planet but that this formation simply was not done. Science-fiction and speculative literature on all kinds of mysteries, such as for example a famous book by Immanuel Velikovski, told long ago that the famous planet was or could have been be destroyed by its inhabitants imprudently playing with nuclear power or having carried out a war of total destruction, and many "contactees" stories incorporated this widely publicized notion.

The DUIST-Vereinigung was a private association in West Germany which had counted up to 10000 members in the Seventies, and which published the bulletin "UFO-Nachrichten." The bulletin mixed UFOs with esotericism as well as topics of the spiritual and religious kinds, and published as "UFO information" cases that were not more than letters of people who claimed to have been "contacted by the aliens" in the manner of the famous liar George Adamski in the Fifties. Generally, no effort was made to check the veracity of these stories that were simply published.
