Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Popular writer on the "Ancient Astronauts" theory Eric von Däniken noted in his 1974 book that on April 12, 1947, the Adventist Bruno Cornacchiola, 34, and his three children, had several visions of Mary in the grotto of Tre-Fontane, near Rome. "Mary" wore a white dress, a pink belt, green veil, and had a little book in her hand.

Points to consider:

Erich von Däniken, (www.daniken.com), Swiss citizen, born in 1935, became famous by publishing from 1968 on, books translated worldwide claiming the influence of extraterrestrial visitors on the first human civilizations - what is now called the "Ancient Astronaut Theory". He used ideas already published in France by author Robert Charroux. In his book "Erscheinungen", there is a list of "Blessed Virgin" appearances reports, briefly described and without any indication of sources, such as this one, which he attributed to extraterrestrials influencing humanity through such supernatural manifestations of religious appearance. Some ufologists share this point of view and therefore cited the reports of this list, without any other effort.

Italian born in a modest family, Bruno Cornacchiola, tramway driver, (1913-2001) was in fact a protestant and hater of the Catholic Church, wanting to destroy it and assassinate the "Pope", until the day the "Virgin Mary" allegedly appeared to him in the cave called "Three Fountains" in Rome, in April 1947.

He used to throw away the pious images put by his wife in their family home, forbad their children to follow the catechism, etc.

In April 1947, near the Trappist abbey at the place called "Three Fountains" in Rome, not far from the Basilica of St. Paul, during a simple walk, he sat down to write a critical article against the "Virgin Mary", while his three children Gianfranco (4), Carlo (7) and Isola (10) walked away to play ball. He did not see them coming back, looked for them and found them in front of the entrance of a cave, hands clasped, pale face, in an attitude of ecstasy, saying "Pretty Lady! Pretty Lady!"

Irritated, he entered the cave and began to call in his turn "Pretty Lady, Pretty Lady". He then saw in front of him a "silhouette of a young woman, in the splendor of a golden light."

"I unexpectedly saw two white hands moving towards me and felt them touching my face, I felt that something was being torn from my eyes, and at that moment I felt a certain pain and I remained in the deepest darkness (...) But, little by little, the darkness lifted and let filter a light that grew and intensified to the point of illuminating the whole cave (...) At this moment I could see neither the cave nor what it could contain, but I was seized with an extraordinary joy."

The "Virgin" then sermoned him;

"You persecute me, stop now! Return to the holy faith (...) Let us pray and that recite daily the Rosary for the conversion of sinners, disbelievers and for the unity of Christians."

Bruno, gasping for breath, followed the Lady's left hand pointing to something at his feet like "a black cloth with a broken cross," which was "actually the book of Revelation", he realized later.

The "Virgin Mary" exhorts her to be careful: "Science will deny God!" Then dictate to him a "secret message to deliver personally to the Holy Father, supreme pastor of Christendom". The "Virgin" made many predictions (we will not know what they were) on the Church, on faith, reveals that "men will no longer believe that so much is happening today and others will still ask for 'prrof'" (and other gibberish), that "among those who will hear you tell this vision, there will be some who will not believe it", but he should "never be discouraged."

At the end of the encounter, the "Virgin" introduces herself to Bruno:

"I am the one who is in the divine Trinity. I am the Virgin of Revelation. Before I go I tell you this: Revelation is the word of God, thus Revelation is in my title: Virgin of Revelation."

On April 12, 1948, he founded the "Association of the Ardents of Christ the Immortal King" to spread his story and the messages given by the "Virgin of Revelation".

I pass on the suites (conversion, preaching, meetings with three "Popes" thrilled that a former protestant kiss their hands, new encounter with the "Virgin" in 1982, start of a Church process to make him a saint in 2017 etc.).

For some ufologists or "ufologists", the explanation of such thing is that the extraterrestrials pose as the "Virgin Mary" or other religious figures in order to "influence" humanity. As if there were not enough benevolent "space brother" stories that brought these "messages" directly from the "space brothers" without disguise.

For other ufologists or "ufologists", since people were claiming things like appearances of the "Virgin Mary" or "ghosts", etc., then those who report in the following times seeing UFO occupants are liars or victims misunderstandings too.

I do not agree with either thesis because they are not based on the examination of the alleged facts. Here, the alleged facts are only one man's claims, without any evidence to corroborate them. What should we learn from this? First of all, that the story does not relate to UFO occupants at all, and second, that it has no credibility.
