According to storyteller and UFO books author Jean Ferguson, of that area, the following events occurred near Abitibi Lake, between Ontario and Quebec in Canada, in 1939 or 1940, one Sunday afternoon between January the 8th and 10th, at approximately 02:30 p.m., by a beautiful sunny and very cold day with -60°F.
The witnesses are two lumberjacks, Hormidas L. and Damase Landry.
They walked on snow rackets in the forest, and exhausted, cut some branches of fir tree to sit down in the snow. They then saw, coming out of the fir trees, an entirely white and enormous wolf apparently looking for something. This wolf stopped within approximately 35 meters of the witnesses, and sat down in the snow.
Suddenly, very small men in dark-green puffy suits emerged from the forest. They were at least six, and measured in the 80 centimeters. They had small slanted eyes and the yellow skin like Asians, ears like small falling triangles, very small chins, and almost flat heads. Their members were weak and the fingers were jointless and short. No condensation vapor came out of their mouth. They all were identical, as if they had been manufactured in series.
At their sight, the wolf became aggressive, hair raised, showing his teeth. The small group stopped, their glances went towards the two lumberjacks, but as if they did not really see them. They then looked to the wolf and pointed fingers at it, while speaking between them, very fast, in a language which resembled Algonquin.
One of the characters went in front of the group towards the wolf, without being blocked by the snow although he had no snow rackets and only small feet. He arrived at a few feet of the wolf and raised a hand while saying some words. The wolf reacted by jumping at him, and it started to tear the little being apart, the arms, the legs and the gust; which fell in the snow, without giving off any condensation vapor.
Damase Landry broke a branch and threw it at the wolf and shouted. The animal made a jump and started to run.
The other beings spent a good five minutes staring at the remainders of their colleague, then one of them pulled out a bag from his clothing and started to collect the scattered remains. At this sight, Hormidas started to vomit in disgust. When the small being had finished picking up the members of the victim, it stood, went towards the fir trees, followed of the others, and they were lost of sight in the underwood.
The two witnesses then followed their trace in the snow, while the humanoids walked too fast to be caught up with, and were at a good distance ahead, visible through the branches. They were suddenly lost from sight, and when the two witnesses came where the track ended, they found it ended in a large circle, where the snow had been ejected around. The circle formed like a hollow basin, to the ground. The witnesses stopped at the edge of this hole, and at this time, they heard like the noise of an explosion.
Returned on the spot where the wolf had attacked one of the small beings, Damase L. found a piece of fabric of its clothing and brown blood on the snow.
A report indicates that this piece was similar to a gelatinous rubber, of green color, and that Damase L. tried to split it in two to share it with Hormidas, but he was unable to cut it in two, not even with an axe.

The Belgian ufologist indicates that between January 8 and 10, 1940, in Canada, close to the Abitibi lake, L. Hormidas and Damase Landry were hiking at approximately 02:30 in the afternoon and by –60° Fahrenheit, circulating on snow-rackets in the snow.
They first saw, coming out of a group of fir trees an almost white wolf, the wolf stopped and sat down on the snow while looking at the fit trees from where it came out. It was sitting less than 35 meters of the witnesses.
Six small men measuring two feet to two feet and half, all similar, dressed up of dark green, came out of the group of trees. They had slanted eyes and yellowish faces. The wolf's hair was all raised. The small men did not seem to see the witnesses. They turned to the wolf and showed it with their finger. They spoke very fast between them.
One of them went forward, to a few feet of the wolf, raised the hand while uttering words. The wolf jumped at the small being and tore him: the members, the guts, all that fell on snow. No mist nor vapor rose from this killed being, the 5 survivors did not react and looked at that. Their breath did not make mist either.
Damase threw a dead branch towards the wolf which left while howling. One of the small beings took out some sort of sack from his clothing and started to collect the scattered pieces of the small killed creature. L. Hormidas could not bear with it anymore and vomited in disgust.
The 5 small men left towards the fit trees. The two witnesses fitted their snow-rackets and followed them. It was easy: they left very small marks in the snow. They arrived at a large hollow in the ground, free from snow, and the traces stopped there.
While reconsidering the place of the drama, Damase found a small bit of gelatinous rubber of the color of clothing of the creatures. He wanted to give a part of it to Hormidas, but it was unable, even with the axe, to cut it in two parts.
Godelieve van Overmeire indicates that the above is a summary and that the source is Jean Ferguson in "Enigmes du temps présent", Leméac publishers, Ottawa, 1979, pages 75 to 82.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that near Lake Abitibi, Quebec, Canada, between January 8 and 10, 1940, at 02:30 p.m., L. Hormidas and Damase Landry had gone out snow skating in an isolated field near the lake, as they stopped to rest by a forested area they saw a large white wolf leaving the woods, walking very slowly and looking back in the direction of the trees. The wolf stopped about 35 meters from the witnesses. Suddenly out of the woods six small men emerged, only about 2-½ ft tall, all similar in appearance, with yellowish faces and wearing dark green garb. A strange vapor or mist is seen rising from the dead being and the other five little men stumble back and stare at the wolf. Damase suddenly grabs a dead tree branch and threw it at the wolf that scatters and disappears into the woods, howling at the same time. One of the small men then produces a small plastic-looking bag and approaches the remains of the dead humanoid; he collects the scattered pieces and places them in the bag. At this point Hormidas is unable to control herself and vomits. The 5 small men then walk away into the woods. The two witnesses put on their ski boots and follow the little men, who are easy to follow since they leave small tracks on the snow. The traces lead to a large hollow on the ground, free from snow, the traces stop there. While looking around the area where the small humanoid was killed by the wolf Damase finds a piece of a small gelatinous rubber-like substance also green in color. They attempted to cut it in two with an axe but were unable to. The whereabouts of this piece of evidence is not known.
Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Jean Ferguson, "Enigmas of the present times", 1979.
He adds that according to Quebec Ufologist Donald Cyr, the incident probably occurred in 1939, and that Cyr believes is was an actual event since he spoke to family members of the two witnesses involved and they confirmed most of the incredible details. (Per Cyr 2003).

As of the date, it is variously given as in 1939 or 1940, one Sunday afternoon between the 8th and 10th of January. For January 1940, the 8th is a Monday. For 1939, the 8th is indeed a Sunday; it is thus possible that the date is rather Sunday, January 8, 1939, than another. I have kept the "classical" date of 1940 given by Jean Ferguson for the file, to keep up with the year readers looking for a case file might likely search for.
Jean Ferguson was born in 1939 and deceased on April 13, 2003. Writer, editor and defender of the French language, of partly Indian origin, Gaspésie resident, he was the founder of the Group of the Writers of Abitibi-Témiscamingue (1984-1999) - he knows the area extremely well. He was holder of a baccalaureat in philosophy from the Saint-Paul University of Ottawa, a baccalaureat in pedagogy from the University of Montreal and a teaching certificate in French from the University of Quebec, and will be a long time teaching in college.
In addition to "Enigmes du temps présent", Jean Ferguson wrote other books, particularly on the subject of the UFOs, such as "Tout sur les soucoupes volantes", 1972, "Les humanoïdes: les cerveaux qui dirigent les soucoupes volantes" ("The humanoids: the brains that controls the flying saucers", 1977.
Unfortunately for the credibility of the story, his UFO books do not reveal a cautious ufologist when he quotes cases of sometimes fraudulent sources without really seeking to check their truthfulness. Outside of the ufology field, he wrote "L'Algonquin Gabriel Commandant - Biographie Romancee D'un Pionnier De L'Abitibi" in 2003, and in this field too, one critic has comments such as "Between the hands of a fabulator as gifted as Jean Ferguson, Gabriel Commandant come out of the legend haloed in mystery. Is it all true? Yes, the author answers, while admitting that that the life of its hero 'holds more fiction than reality'."
This is of course not enough to make sure that the story was entirely invented, but as it stands, I do not know what to make of it and I would really be grateful to any person who could show me with some precise fact why it is true, or why it is untrue.
