1924, DADE CITY, FLORIDA, USA, EVELYN WENDT:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

According to a ufologist's book, a local newspaper published about 1974 the statements of Miss Evelyn Wendt, now operator of a beauty parlor, who, schoolgirl, in 1924, was playing in the schoolyard of the Holy Name Convent School in Dade City, in Florida, by day.

She recalled that the first thing in her memory was an egg-shaped thing on the ground, and light in her eyes.

Then the light went out, a sort of hatch opened, and little robot people emerged. They were smaller than her and resembled animated flowers with faces where the bud would be. As they looked like flowers, and as she was a kid, she was not afraid of them.

They carried a weapon-like device to the school's science building. She wanted to help them, but someone told her to stop. She replied that they were so small, that she was going to assist, and the creatures let her try but she could not move the device.

She was told they were going to stop the work that was being done in the science building and told that if the work continued, they would destroy the place; but she could not remember what kind of a work that was supposed to be, only remembering that later she heard the place was in a shamble.

She remembered there seemed to be a man with the little people, and everything looked real, even though she was not sure. The conversation was not ordinary talking, she understood mentally what was being said.

As they were leaving, they asked if she wanted to go, she answered no but remembers she could have gone.

The creatures promised to come back for her in 35 years, but nothing like this happened.

Their "saucer" then flew straight up, hovered a minute and disappeared.

[Ref. bh1:] ROBERT E. BARTHOLOMEW AND GEORGE S. HOWARD:

The authors indicate that in 1924, at the Holy Name Convent School in Dade City, Florida, by day, Mrs Evelyn Wendt, now a beauty salon operator, and then a schoolgirl, was playing in the yard of that school.

She told, "the first thing I remember is that this egg-shaped thing was on the ground, and this bright light was shining in my eyes."

Then the light went out, a "hatch" opened, and little robot people emerged:

"They were smaller than I and resembled animated flowers with faces where the bud would be. Remember, I was just a bitty thing then, and kids don't fear flowers."

They carried a weapon-like device to the school's science building.

"I wanted to help them, but someone said, 'Stop.' I replied that they were so small, I was going to assist. The creatures let me try, but I couldn't even budge the machine. I was told they were going to stop the work that was being done in the science building and they said if the work continued, they would destroy the place."

When asked what that "work" was, she said she didn't know: "All I know is later I heard the place was a shambles."

She added: "There seemed to be a man with the little people. ...everything looked real, even though I wasn't so sure. The conversation wasn't real talking," but she understood mentally what was being said. As they were leaving, "they asked if I wanted to go. I said, 'No,' but I could have gone."

She adds: "They promised to come back for me in 35 years, but that was up a long time ago, and nothing happened that I know of."

The "saucer" then flew straight up, hovered a minute and disappeared.

The authors indicate that the story is in Timothy G. Beckley's book "Timothy G. Beckley's Book of Space Contacts", New York, Global Communications, 1981, pp. 26-27, quoting from The Weekday newspaper of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Points to consider:

The school was actually the St. Joseph school, Pasco county, where indeed the Benedictine Sisters of the Holy Name Convent were teaching from September 1921 and from that time until its closing. From 1921 to 1928, the principal was Miss Marie Martin. St. Joseph was the only public school in Florida staffed by nuns.

The former St Joseph School, a two classrooms wooden construction, as it stands in 2006.

The case is of high strangeness but of low reliability as the unique witness reports 50 years later on events of her childhood.
