Reported by the Press, it seems there was a meteor fall seen from Argentina and Chile on February 15, 1914. The meteor seems to have fallen near Chanco, in the district of Maule in Chile.
Descriptions, meager, tell about a "lengthened" or "cigar-shaped" thing, about an "engine noise", and that a trail of smoke remained visible time in the sky for a time, which is nothing that would exclude a meteor.
A newspaper of the time speculated first about some fireworks rocket or plane on fire, then told about a meteor.
A modern "mysteries" magazine, a website, on the other hand, argue that it was a UFO crash, saying witnesses said that the fall was "slow".
And although there is no mention of the least "occupant", the case appeared in a catalogue of "encounters with humanoids", probably estimating that a UFO crash could happen without occupants on board.

Albert Rosales indicates that in Chanco, Maule Region, Chile, on February 15, 1914, at 06:00 p.m., "Published newspaper reports describe a "bolide" like object that crossed the firmament from west to east leaving behind a white smoky trail that took about 15 minutes to dissipate. The event was also observed from Argentina in which witnesses reported a "celestial object" that emitted a large plume of white smoke from its rear, which remained visible for a long time, witnesses thought that whatever it was had crashed into the Pacific Ocean or Chile. A local witness, 104-year old Juana Anduar, only 14-years old at the time remembers that the classes were dismissed early and everyone stopped what they were doing to watch the strange spectacle. Anduar remembers seeing an object approaching from the west that the shape of a modern "airplane fuselage", it flew diagonally emitting a tremendous noise. The frightened witnesses could see what appeared to be flames behind the object. The object apparently impacted into an isolated area in the forest quickly producing a large fire. According to reports searchers failed to locate a crater or any signs of the object. Some in the area speculate that the object remains buried underground."

A UFO falls in chile in 1914The first recording that we have of the fall of an unidentified object in Chile goes back to February 15, 1914, in the rural district of "Chanco". Information in connection with this incident comes from several different sources. The first is the oral transmission of the inhabitants who witnessed the fall of a foreign body and spoke about it to their descendants. The second is the witnesses who lived in the area and are still alive, like Juana Andaur, informant who remembers all that occurred that afternoon. I went with my mother when I was surprised by an enormous noise. Like many people, when I looked at the sky I saw a bottle slowly falling in flames and smoke on a mountainous zone, causing a gigantic fire. Like all the other elements of proof of the incident, his report also has the approval of what the Press published at that time. This information also has a particular interest. February 16, 1914 La Maņana from the town of Talca headlined "celestial phenomenon. Yesterday at 05:55 p.m. there was the crossing of a ball of fire, by the celestial heights, in direction from the west towards the east. The luminous body did not fail to impress people who could see it. Further on they state: "the white smoke left behind it took approximately 15 minutes to be dissipated, while it remained suspended above the blue sky, perfectly standing". Then, the newspaper put forth the assumption that it was a fireworks rocket or a plane on fire. This phenomenon was also observed from Argentina. The telegraphist who sent the report from the close country, according to La Manana for February 18, declared that the body left "a long white gas trail which remained visible until late in the night." In the last paragraph we read: "It is supposed that this large meteorite fell in Chilean territory, or into the Pacific Ocean." The witnesses in Chile indicate that the object emitted an engine noise, had a cylindrical or cigare shape and fell slowly. Thus, it could be excluded that it was a meteorite, since the object should have been in free fall. It is not the only historical case. But it makes it possible to seriously doubt the simplistic interpretation which says that in Chile the UFO phenomenon arrived after the war as a cultural fashion from the US, there were already several precedents, which have the merit to testify impartially that it was not a contamniation by any fashion. UFO Research resumed the research in Chanco recently as a historical case. Pedro Muņoz, geographer at the Catholic Pontifical University of Chile, was one of the professionals who took part in this research, in collaboration with the military personnel. He and an academic of the same university, Reginaldo Bergier, one of the most prominent geographers of the country, currently carry out a full investigation in the area where the UFO fell and which we already defined. |
Josep Guijarro, cited as source, is a Spanish journalist who travelled much and wrote bestsellers on "beings from other dimensions among us", the "hidden treasure" of the Templars, etc. He was an editor of Beyond magazine, took part or directed "mysteries" TV shows in Spain, wrote articles for magazines like Ano Cero, etc.

When it comes to this case, it is obviously very silly that what totally appears to be a case of meteor fall, without "occupants" obviously, not only becomes a "UFO crash", but moreover is catalogued as a "close encounter of the thoird kind"!
