The Belgium flap:

On November 29, 1989, in the Eupen region:

At 06:45 p.m. near the Welkenraedt station, Mr. Bartholome:

A report, in the Flying Saucer Review, indicates for this observation:

At Walkenraedt, at 1845 hrs., near the railway station, Monsieur Bartholome saw a dark mass flying very low and very slowly, and without any sound. It headed at first towards Henri-Chapelle, and then towards Battice. Arriving at the Dolhain exit, the same witness again glimpsed the object in the far distance, travelling towards the dam at La Gileppe or Jalhay (where it was, in fact, reported between 1830 and 1845 hrs.).

All these pieces of testimony which we have given above are taken from the Report issued on December 18, 1989, by SOBEPS.

SOBEPS gives this information:

Luminosity of the sky during this sighting:

06:50 p.m.
07:00 p.m.
07:10 p.m.

Localization:

The place spells “Welkenraedt”, not “Walkenraedt”.

There is indeed a railway station there.

Above: Localization of Welkenraedt (red dot) relative to Verviers and Eupen.

The “exit of Dolhain” may be at one or the other the green dot. The direction to Henri-Chapelle is to to pink dot. The direction of La Gileppe dam would be towards the blue dot. The direction to Battice goes to the purple dot.

The report is not very precise as to the directions and location, but obviously, this is what is reported:

The witness saw the UFO as he was in Welkenraedt, the UFO was roughly in the North-West relative to the witness. The witness drove to the South or South-West (green line), the UFO moved from North-West to West then South then South-East. Roughly, it went from the left to the right of the witness in an arc (red line, from the pink spot to the blue spot).

The red line does not show the positions of the UFO, only the directions of sight. The distances from the witness to the UFO are indeed not in the report.

Notes:

Per se, the report allows many interpretations. Nevertheless, we have one more person puzzled by something in the area in this region that evening.

Also, it has an obvious interest, when considered with other reportsof the evening, mostly with the observations of the policemen towards the Gileppe lake, the sighting that some “UFO skeptics” claim to be planet Venus mistaken for a UFO.
