ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Batzendorf, on February 8, 2019:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2019-02-08-BATZENDORF-1

Summary:

A 22-year-old young man from Batzendorf in the Haut-Rhin, introducing himself as a UFO observation enthusiast, registered since 2014 on the ufological forum "Les Mystères des OVNIS", where he submits his testimonies, which the participants explain or comment. The following testimony is his fifth observation.

He indicates, half an hour after the sighting, that on February 8, 2019, at 6:35 p.m., he was in his mother's car as she was driving, returning from Wintershouse to their home in Batzendorf. He was looking by the door window when he saw in the sky 4 lights, 3 yellow and one red, flashing "oddly and rather quickly" - he publishes reconstructions images of the order of flashing.

It seemed stationary and very high in the sky. He indicates that the flashing repeated at least 5 times during the observation, which he says lasted 5 minutes.

On the forum, members tried to find a plane or helicopter that would have been there, but in vain.

Full story of the observation:

My ocured [sic] at 6:35 p.m. on my way home from a dental procedure, I was looking through the window of the door of my mother's 107 [car] (she was with me, but was not looking in the same direction, she did not see the object) when I saw these 4 lights (3 yellow and one red) in the sky flashing strangely and rather quickly (order of flashing illustrated by the sketches mad [sic] with paint). The object appeared to be stationary and very high in the sky.

Here are several sketches explaining the blinking of the lights (it is repeated at least 5 times during the observation, but it was rather fast and I didn't really count so in 5 minutes, it could very well be much more).

The route link does nothing for me.

Are you sure this UFO was static? Because you were yourself on the move, it seems to me.

On your sketch the 4 lights if one connects them delimits a triangle (3 aligned on the same axis and one isolated perpendicular to this axis) but you say that it was not one, why? what was its shape according to you?

Planefinder does not give anything at the time indicated above the two municipalities mentioned, taking into account the following time slot: 6:25 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Re: 2019: on 02/08 at 06:35 p.m. - 4 flashing lights - Batzendorf-Wintershouse -Bas-Rhin (dep.67)

Tue Feb 12, 2019, 01:07 p.m.

For me it wasn't one because of the very rapid flashing of the lights (in the order indicated by my paint sketches: 1-2-3-4 repeated each time) which prevented me from seeing the exact outlines of it, and I would add that I stopped observing when we entered the village

Can we see choppers on Planefinder or not? (there was no sound emitted by the object in question, but just in case).

Yes, it is possible to have some helicopters on the screen. However, I doubt that we find that of the Gendarmerie for example or those of Camp La Horie de Phalsbourg. Only civilian aircraft are visible, not military ones.

Discussion:

Map.

The trip from Wintershouse to Batzendorf, by car, takes about 7 minutes.

It seems to me that what intrigued the witness is the rapidity of the flashing. No doubt he perceived that this flashing was too fast to be the navigation beacons of an airplane or helicopter: "For me it's not one because of the very fast flashing of the lights".

As a result, there is a possible explanation, that of LED balloons.

These balloons often have a setting that allows deciding whether they should flash or not, and offer various flashing patterns.

LED balloons are most often sold in packs of several, of different colors, for example 5 Euros for 5 balloons, they can be found by online purchase and in stores in the same department as the "Chinese lanterns."

Releasing LED balloons is not as complicated as flying a drone or Chinese lanterns, no authorization is required.

LED balloons.

Evaluation:

Possible LED balloons.
