ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Summary:

In the early 1970s, the French ufology magazine "Lumières Dans La Nuit" had explained to its readers how to build a "UFO detector".

The device was essentially like a compass, with an alarm sounding if the needle moved. It was considered that UFOs may produce a magnetic field as they passed, and that the alarm would make it possible to watch a passing UFO when the detector rung. The magazine regularly published lists of such "alarms."

In their February 1971 issue, we learned that in Strasbourg such a "UFO detector" sounded for two minutes on September 3, 1970, at 10:30; but the sky was totally cloudy and no UFO was therefore seen.

Note: this is an alert among thers about what would be a "UFO" detected by a "UFO detector" using a compass system designed by Dr. René Hardy. The magazine gave a list of these "alerts", including this one.
