ACUFO:

ACUFO is my comprehensive catalog of cases of encounters between aircraft and UFOs, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ACUFO catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file.

This photograph appears with the caption:

Interestingly enough, with all the sightings and reports, and all the gun cameras and high altitude photographs, no truly GOOD pictures of Foo Fighters from the period have surfaced.

Flares from another B-17?

Aircraft information:

The plane on the image is a B-17.

The US B-17 "Flying Fortress" was a heavy bomber fitted with five 7.62 machine guns for its defense against enemy fighter planes.

B-17 formation.

Discussion:

As of April 2024, the photo also appears on these Web pages:

https://www.nevingtonwarmuseum.com/foo-fighters.html
https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Foo_Fighters__WWII_UFOs_/5-1443768
https://www.fenomenum.com.br/ufo/galerias/galeria1

None of them gives any original source, date or place.

The B-17s operating mainly over Europe while in the Pacific the B-29s replaced them, I note the location as Europe, but this is of course not certain.

The three bright spots could be other aircraft reflecting the sun, or film faults, or bullets.

The image is probably a frame from some WWII footage. The strangeness is null to me.

Evaluation:

No strangeness.
