Summary:

François Diolez of the Cercle Vosgien Lumières Dans la Nuit ufology group compiled in November 1984 a catalog of cases of the Vosges, with the help of François Lagarde, and published it in the ufology magazine Lumières Dans La Nuit.

He indicates that on Saturday, January 9, 1954, at about 07:50 or 07:55 local time, according to an article of La Liberté de l'Est for January 13, 1954, Mr. Stock, residing Avenue Poincaré, in Vittel, while he opened his shutters, saw a possible "saucer", an elongated shape of "indefinable hue ranging from orange to purple", without trail.

It was of course the meteor of January 9, 1954 at 07:48 a.m..

3°) CASE Nr F/98/88540109 (02) VITTEL - SATURDAY JANUARY 9, 1954

Approximately 7:50 a.m. / 7:55 a.m. local time.

Witness: Mr. STOCK

Sources: Article La Liberté de l'Est of January 13, 1954

"EPINAL and VESOUL reported seeing Saturday between 7:50 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. a flying saucer. Now at the same time Mr. STOCK residing on Avenue Poincaré observed one, the same one certainly when he was opening its shutters. Of elongated shape and of an indefinable hue going from orange to purple without trail. All this agrees well with what was seen in the 5 minute interval. Is it a flying saucer?".

(Full article).

Note: Continuation of the articles.

Comments: Different observation of the same phenomenon? [as in Epinal]

[Ref. fdz1:] FRANCOIS DIOLEZ:

François Diolez of the French ufology group CNEGU set up a catalogue of cases in the Vosges, in November 1984, with the help of ufologist François Lagarde.

The catalogue indicates that on Saturday January 9, 1954 at approximately 07:50 or 07:55 local time, in Vittel, a sighting took place which was reported in an article of La Liberté de l'Est for January 13, 1954:

"EPINAL and VESOUL reported to have seen Saturday between 7.50 and 7.55 a flying saucer. However at the same time Mr. STOCK living on Avenue Poincaré observed one, the same one certainly whereas he opened his shutters. Of lengthened form and indefinable colour going from orange to purple without trail. All that corresponds well to what was seen in the 5 minutes interval. Is it a flying saucer?"

The author of the catalogue comments on that this is the entire article, following other articles, and he wonders and suspects that it could have been a different observation of the same phenomenon.

Explanations:

Map.
