November 5, 1954, Solesmes, Nord:

Summary:

The regional newspaper La Voix du Nord, in the Cambrai local issue for November 9, 1954, reported:

We had been looking forward to it for a long time and already Solesmes seemed a strange country. Think about it! It had been seen in N... and in V... And in Solesmes? Nothing!

So, on Friday at dawn, a farm worker was busy milking cows in a field when a shining disc appeared, emerging from the mist, which, descending towards the earth, suddenly disappeared as it approached the ground. Our man, intrigued, looked around and suddenly saw IT!

Lopsided on a beet, a deflated rubber balloon, miserably flabby and, attached by a string, a white paper Venetian lantern where a candle was burning! The subversive device, the work of a rather ingenious joker, since it managed to hold in the air until the candle wore out, was transported to the police station where it was the object of the amused curiosity of many Somesmes residents.

But let's reassure our readers! Several people from Solesme or St-Python have seen, in recent months, these bizarre craft which crisscross the sky at dizzying speeds. To our knowledge, these appearances, usually brief, took place on about five different occasions. But none of these craft ever landed on the territory of the region.
