The regional newspaper Le Courrier de Saône-et-Loire for October 4, 1954, reported that in Lucenay-l'Evêque, on September 30, 1954, at 3 a.m., Emile Walet, a temporary postman, was awakened and saw from his bed, through the window, a luminous object moving in the sky.
He quickly got dressed, went outside, and saw a luminous disc that was indeed moving, spinning on itself and leaving luminous trails.
He was able to observe this phenomenon for thirty minutes, and finally, without any noise, the object disappeared behind the mountain in the direction of Epinac-les-Mines.

LUCENAY-L'EVEQUE. -- On Thursday at 3 a.m., Mr. Emile Walet, a temporary postal worker, was awakened and saw from his bed, through the window, a luminous object moving in the sky.
Quickly getting dressed, he went outside to make sure he wasn't experiencing a hallucination. He was not — a luminous disc was indeed moving, spinning on itself and leaving luminous trails.
He was able to observe the phenomenon for thirty minutes. Finally, without making any noise, the object disappeared behind the mountain in the direction of Epinac-les-Mines.

The duration rules out a meteor; the movement and spin seem to exclude an astronomical misidentification. But the report is too brief to say more.
