Summary:

According to two ufology catalogs of the 1970s, the newspaper La Montagne of Aurillac reported an observation of October 28, 1954, in Montmiant, Allier, at a place called Les Echassières:

At 8:55 p.m., Mr. and Mrs. Dubreuil, accompanied by Miss Brun, left Mr. Garengeat's home in the village of Montmiant when their attention was attracted by a luminous ball of 2 meters in diameter which moved horizontally over the hill "les Suchots".

At a "dizzying" pace, it crossed the sky from east to west leaving a trail of flames behind.

Mr. and Mrs. Dubreuil, accompanied by Miss Brun, were leaving Mr. Garengeat's house in the village of Montmiant when their attention was caught by a luminous sphere about 2 meters in diameter (?) moving horizontally above the hill "Suchots." At a dizzying speed, it crossed the sky from east to west, leaving a trail of flames behind it. (La Montagne–Aurillac, November 5, 1954).
