October 26, 1954, Chaumergy, Jura:

Reference for this case: 26-Oct-54-Chaumergy.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

According to a US website of the 2000's, French ufologist Jacques Vallée noted in his computerized catalog that there was an observation on October 26, 1954, at 07:45 p.m., in Chaumergy, by a single witness, of an object that had an "appearance and behavior that most likely would have a conventional explanation."

A German ufology Web database then recorded this case, but without mention of a likely conventional explanation and without citing any source.

In 2025, I was able to find a contemporary source for this case, the regional newspaper La Bourgogne Républicaine for October 30, 1954.

This newspaper reported that, according to their correspondent in Chaumergy, on October 26, 1954, around 7:45 p.m., Mr. Robert Lhuillier from Francheville in the Jura was returning by motorcycle from Bois-de-Gand when he very clearly saw a luminous disc leaving an orange trail, moving very quickly from southeast to northwest at a medium altitude.

This newspaper added that he had followed it with his eyes "for a while," until it disappeared behind the woods.
