The newspaper Le Courrier de Saône-et-Loire for October 20, 1954, reported that in Gigny-sur-Saône on October 16, 1954, around 9:30 p.m., several trustworthy individuals, located in different places, Bernard Gillet and Jean-Baptiste Crétin in Lampagny; Jean Gay in Lépervière, clearly saw "an elongated luminous craft, red at the front, bluish at the rear, moving from east to west above the hamlet of Lampagny."
The newspaper wondered whether it was once again "weather balloons," or perhaps a meteor, or a case of "mass hysteria," noting that "the latter hypothesis seems unlikely."

Saturday evening, around 9:30 p.m., several trustworthy people, located in different places - Bernard Gillet and Jean-Baptiste Crétin in Lampagny; Jean Gay in L'Epervière - clearly saw an elongated luminous object, red in the front, bluish in the back, moving from east to west over the hamlet of Lampagny.
Weather balloons once again? Meteor? Mass hysteria? The latter hypothesis seems unlikely.

Lampagny is a locality within the commune of Gigny-sur-Saône, and Lépervière is one of its hamlets.
The sighting is very likely one of the observations of the 9:30 p.m. meteor.
