The regional newspaper Le Courrier de Saône-et-Loire for October 16, 1954, reported that on October 14, 1954, around 6:30 p.m., a "reliable" person saw a mysterious craft pass over Sassenay. It had the shape of an "oval disc," was greenish in color, and moved "slowly" through the sky. The witness went to fetch her daughter to show her the phenomenon, but by the time she returned, "the craft" had disappeared.
