The article below was published in the daily newspaper Var-Matin - République, France, on February 23, 1978.
Yesterday at 7 p.m., a strange phenomenon was observed in the Toulon sky. Many passersby saw at this hour a bluish spot moving above the city in a north-south direction. One of the witnesses told us that it had taken less than a second to cross the Boulevard de Strasbourg and that this spot had the dimensions of a quarter moon. We are lost in conjectures on the origin of this mysterious craft. The national meteorological services consulted assured that they had not launched a sounding balloon.
