The article below was published in the daily newspaper Sud Ouest, France, on February 9, 1989.
An unidentified flying object was seen by several people during the night from Monday to Tuesday, in the region of Saint-Martory (the Haute-Garonne).
As he was driving home with his wife and son around 11:30 p.m., Mr. Andr Rieu was suddenly blinded by a bright light. "The whole landscape was suddenly lit up as in broad daylight by a blue-green light whose source we could not see," he says. This phenomenon was also noticed by several other inhabitants of the region several kilometers from Mr. Rieu.
At the National Center for Space Studies (CNES) in Toulouse, it is specified that this unidentified object has been observed throughout the South-West; and that it could be the "re-entry into the atmosphere of a satellite, a rocket or even a meteorite".
