G. Beanland and A. V. Day, at the local flour mill, sighted a cigar-shaped object stationary over Newport Bridge, shortly after 1 a.m. Searchlights flashed from each end on to the bridge. After ten minutes, one of the lights went out, and the object flew off toward Stow Hill.
