A number of Manistique citizens upon their oath say that they saw the much talked of airship on its westward trip, Monday night [April 19, 1897]. C. R. Orr states that the ship seemed to be making 1,000 miles an hour, and Billie DeDue avers that he discerned the outline of the wonder and that it looked like a Washington cigar with a bright light in the center of it.
