UFOs in the daily Press:

The 1954 French flap in the Press:

This article was published in the daily newspaper Le Quotidien de la Haute-Loire, October 15, 1954.

THE "SAUCER"" DID NOT LAND BUT RELEASED "PELLETS"

It was claimed wrongly that Mrs. Blachon, resident of Chaumargeais, close to Tence, had seen a flying saucer landing. Information being fetched, Mrs. Blachon did not see the machine land but, on the other hand noted in a very clear manner that this cigar released pellets which disappeared quickly in the atmosphere. One thus wonders if they were "rolled in the flour or the sugar"...

[Note: "rolled in the flour" is a French expression meaning to have been fooled.]
