UFOs in the daily Press:

Meteor, France, 1980:

The article below was published in the daily newspaper L'Eveil, France, on November 13, 1980.

Luminous phenomenon in the Vellav sky

Driving by car, Sunday around 6:35 p.m., on the road to Cussac, near Valhory, we personally witnessed, along with three members of our family, a strange luminous phenomenon. A spherical object giving off a very bright light, green and red, appeared in the sky and crossed the horizon from Bouzols to Poinsac.

Our first (professional) instinct was to take a photo. But by the time we stopped the car, took our camera and got out, the luminous phenomenon had greatly faded and the effect on the film was almost zero. The ball seemed to fall towards the horizon while declining in intensity, then scattered, a bit like a fireworks rocket. The whole thing only lasted a few seconds.

The phenomenon struck us by its intensity and its clarity, and above all by the beauty of the colors which generated it. It was an almost unreal green, like that of a Bengal fire.

Another testimony

The phenomenon has undoubtedly been noticed by other people. We received, in any case at the newspaper, on Wednesday morning, the formal testimony of a Ponot taxi driver, Mr. Chapuis. He too was driving in a car, near the Roche Rouge, on the road to Lantrias, when he saw the object. He also stopped his vehicle. For Mr. Chapuis the object had a round shape and its color was yellow and green. Mr. Chapuis had to, a little after witnessing the scene, stop at the Saint-Julien-Chapteuil gendarmerie to report these facts.

The "Green Light" was also seen by numerous witnesses in the south of France. The hypothesis of a satellite having caught fire upon re-entering the atmosphere is put forward.
