UNKNOWN ARTIFICIAL SATELLITE?

A mysterious luminous craft visible every evening in the Italian sky

Trente (A.F.P.). -- "We observe since August 16 a luminous body which crosses our angle of vision every evening regularly in a North - West - South - East direction stated yesterday Professor Abrami, vice-director of the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste questioned about the as yet unidentified phenomenon that can be observed also with the naked eye.

"The luminous body said Professor Abrami, must perform a regular rotation around the earth while rotating around its own axis. Each evening its appearance is a few minutes ahead of that of the previous evening. We recorded the following passages since last Saturday: 10.20 p.m., 10.10 p.m., 9.37 p.m., 9.22 p.m. and 9 p.m. It emits intermittent light signals, probably due to its rotation on itself. According to our observations its orbit declines more and more on our horizon."

Professor Abrami speculated that it could be an unknown artificial satellite.

Given the descent from day to day, it could be the debris of a balloon - satellite, actually unknown, since the first known one was PAGEOS whose debris caused similar sightings, but in 1977.
