U.F.O's in the sky of the North

LILLE. -- The U.F.O's (unidentified flying objects) continue to raise discussions in the North of France. Thus, after Maubeuge, Roncq, Lens, it is now in the area of Douai that people claim to have seen them.

A former head of department of the collieries of the basin of the North and Pas-de-Calais, B. Betourne, residing in Cuincy-lès-Douai, stated to have observed in the evening of January 6, in company of his wife and during one minute approximately, a luminous sphere in the sky. This U.F.O, of red-orange color, "similar to a paper lantern" and of vague contours, was equipped with a red flashing light, Mr. Betourne specified.

In Maubeuge, last September, twice, several people claimed to have seen "flying saucers." Very recently, inhabitants of Roncq (close to Lille) made identical statements. And very early, in the morning of December 31, close to Lens, a grocer, Mr. Lie Fooghe, told the gendarmes that he saw "a flying cigar." Besides, the investigators made the observation of the suspicious traces on the fozen ground and issued a call in the regional press to find other witnesses.

Of all the appearances of U.F.O's that were reported recently in the north of France, one, at least, was elucidated: a few days ago, in Portel, close to Boulogne-sur-Mer, many people had claimed to have seen luminous objects in the sky. It was, actually, parachutes-rocket stolen on board of boats and that a band of young burglars hadfired in the night.
