On Thursday evening, around 5:45 p.m., a group of shopkeepers on Avenue Boucicaut and many residents living near the corner of Rue du Champ-Gaillard saw a mysterious object that they could not describe, as it was flying at a very high altitude.
Mr. Maugey, a physical education teacher, who was on his balcony and able to observe the object's movement a bit longer as it headed toward the Dheune Valley, said he believed it was a huge rocket, noting he clearly saw a long red trail likely caused by the propulsion system of the mysterious object, which some people dubbed a "flying cigar."
According to credible witnesses from Rue des ChĂȘnes, in Montceau, the same object flew over the mining basin shortly afterward before vanishing from view.
