SPEED GREATER THAN 2,000 mph

Two more people report having seen the strange object in the night sky on Wednesday over the Bournemouth coast.

The object, "a steady white light with a luminous tail", was first reported by two teachers at Poole, Eric Saunders, a lecturer at Shough, and his friend Mr. John Foster, of Penn-Hill avenue, Poole.

Today, Mr. S.S. Ashwood, of Clanford Magna road, Clanford, said he happened quite by chance to go to his window at about 11:30 p.m. when he saw a "star-like rocket" overhead. It was flying from the [?] and disappeared towards the south.

It was a splendid sight," he said.

Good View

At the same time, Mr. C. Williams, of the Hotel Esplanade, the Marina, Bascombe, had a good view of the object when he was near Bascombe Pier.

Mr Williams noted it had an elongated red tail light. It was flying level and straight.

He noted some flame from the object. It was nothing like a shooting star and travelled much too fast for a plane.

Mr Williams said he is sure its speed was far greater than the estimate of 2,000 miles an hour given by one of the teachers and reported in yesterday's "Echo".

Both say the object remained in sight for almost seven seconds.
