Some of this year's 'best dressed' trick-or-treaters in Barron County might not have been in costume - or even from this galaxy - if this week's reported UFO sighting is any indication.
A 26-year-old man called the sheriff's department at 3:53 Monday morning and reported seeing a UFO just east of Cumberland and north of Hwy. 48, according to county dispatch records.
He further described the UFO as hovering 200 feet above the ground, having a bluish tint and emitting a very bright light. The caller said he had observed the object for about five minutes.
Dispatchers immediately alerted a county officer in the area of the call. An officer with the Cumberland Police Department, who reported having just spoken to another witness of the UFO, also responded at that time.
Cumberland Police Chief Steve Linton said authorities were unable to locate the disturbance north of Hwy. 48 near Eighth Street and the search was called off at 4:30 a.m.
