A non-anonymous witness reported his observation via the web to the MUFON in the USA, saying that it happened at Simiane-la-Rotonde in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in France on August 13, 2017:
"We went out to our terrace, it was about 10 p.m. Opposite is a hill called le Défends. It is wild, covered with pines trees, oaks and other Mediterranean species, and behind it there is a plate, also wild, and other hills. There are no dwellings, some roads, but difficult to reach, by foot, no car access, from behind the hill radiated three huge beams, similar to beams emitted by vehicle headlights or aurora borealis (but they were not, because it was white, and there are none in the region.) These three beams of light did not move and went outside several times to oberve them. When we stopped observing, at around 11 p.m., they were still there, in the same south-south slope, toward the Milky Way. The sky was pure, cloudless, and dotted with thousands of bright stars. Between two beams, a red dot was moving from right to left, left to right, it was very small, and quickly disappeared. We first thought of a meteorological phenomenon, but it was a night without wind, without clouds, without particular disturbance. It was beautiful and at the same time a strange, intriguing sensation mixed with a slight anxiety."
The beams could be Skytracers, i.e. searchlights, or disco lasers, which can be seen at great distances.
On August 15, 2017, someone reported his sighting of August 12, 2017, to the MUFON website. It occurred at Elk Rapids, Michigan, USA. The witness stated:
"1. Out in my yard looking in a Northeast direction watching for possible fireballs from the current meteor shower.
"2. I just happened to catch a glimpse of it just below of where my line of sight was. Good enough to know for sure it was not like anything I've ever seen.
"3. First instinct was thinking it was a black bird in the far distance.
"4. Small dark/black sphere moving at extremely high rate of speed from South to North. No elevation change noted. Moving so fast it was only a split second that I was able to see it before out of sight behind trees nearby.
"5. I felt confused because at first my brain categorized it as a black bird but I knew it wasn't. It was moving way too fast and too small and definitely had a sphere shape. I kept playing it over and over in my head and couldn't rationalize anything other than it being a UFO. I was excited and disappointed because it happened so fast.
"6. It went out of sight behind some nearby trees."
The ufology group G.U.L. said on August 13, 2017 that on Thursday, August 10, 2017, Angelo Maggioni, an independent ufologist from Savona and a member of this group, was preparing to film the shooting stars when around 09:45 p.m. he saw a luminous object moving at high speed from the mountains towards the sea.
With his camera, he was able to film it. He said the object "had the size of a coin of 2 centimes" and was shiny, white, not emitting noise, seeming to accelerate at some point. He said that it happened in a famous "corridor" where one often sees unidentified objects passing over the Madonna del Monte Redoute mountain where the same ufologist thinks "an extraterrestrial base" exists.
He said he had checked that it was not the ISS, which he saw shortly afterwards at 22:12 as planned, following almost the same route, and that the video was taken by a camera that is operating 24 hours a day.
He excludes a plane, a Chinese lantern, a drone, a bird.
