A man said he captured UFOs on video on December 13, 2011, in Mexico City, Mexico. He said:
"Hi friends, today I present a video recorded with my cell phone, the day December 13, 2011, at approximately 14:50, where we see a fleet of five foreign objects, videorecorded at the center of Mexico City."

Alas, the objects do not really seem "foreign" to me, as they look just like balloons.
A woman reported to NUFORC about her 4 minutes or so sighting on December 12, 2011 at 1:00 from Lakewood, Colorado, USA.
She wrote she saw a bright light leveling off into a bright sphere which then headed off and then disappeared suddenly:
"I was letting dogs out in the exercise yard behind an Animal Hospital. Normally I do not do it this early but because we had no patients this night I could go home early. I was standing in a stairwell watching the dog I had let out when I noticed the bright light. It was between 1:30 Am and 2 Am. I saw only 1 unidentified object."
"First I saw a bright light, thought it was a chopper but than noticed no sounds. Even though the light shined directly on me nothing was lit up as far as myself or the area around me. The object in question went further away with the bright light facing me, than like leveled out and started going in a sort of a northwest direction than it just disappeared without getting smaller. Like someone turned the lights off. It was kind of overcast up in the sky. I took the pictures on my cell phone and sent them to my PC and didn't relize what I really saw till I looked at them on my PC."

I see that the EXIF seem incomplete (the images were at least cropped), showing a "Pantech TXT8040" mobile phone camera amd some editing (honest or not) with Photoshop CS3, the aperture time is missing (probably automatic).
On December 12, 2011, the website of the British newspaper The Telegraph says Russian protesters film UFO over Moscow.
They say hundreds of pro-democracy protestors in Moscow's Bolotnaya Square on Saturday (thus, December 10, 2011) were looking at at an unidentified craft, "clearly not a helicopter, the silent UFO pulsated coloured lights and had five extended tendrils or pylons emanating from the body of the vehicle."
"Onlookers, protesting against election results, climbed trees to grab a closer look at the mysterious craft which seemed to be observing the 25,000 people who had made their way down to Bolotnaya Square to protest."

Clearly it is not a helicopter, but it could very well have been a drone from the police forces to survey the protesters.
Fox News TV channel reported on December 12, 2011, that a man captured a video of a "glowing object" in the sky from Swansea, Massachussets, USA, on December 8, 2011.
"Ric Oliveria walked out of a local pub last Friday night after a single drink and saw something in the sky that he calls "disturbing."
"His cell phone captured lights in the sky moving slowly in a northward direction. Before he could get his cell phone out to shoot the video, however, Oliveria says he saw what appeared to be a very large object in the sky that made him feel uneasy."
"It was glowing red like nothing I had ever seen glow red. It was huge... I would say it was 20-30 feet in depth," says Oliveria.
"The next thing you know [his friend] says, 'Look another one!' and that one went over us. I didn't see it directly over us, but we saw it shooting off and then it seemed to stop and dance over the cooling towers. That's the video that has become so infamous."

What the video shows and the report suggest is entirely compatible with Chinese lanterns.
FR3 TV channel in France broadcast a "UFOs" show on December 7, 2011 at 11:50 p.m., introduced as "UFOs remain a mystery today. Since the beginnings of times men scan the skies, challenged by the demonstrations they can observe there and they indulge to the most various, mystical or profane interpretations..." Etc.

A controversy started on the web as one "sinXster" published an image on youtube, claiming it is a spaceship, as "It's cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it's cloaked."

Actually the Heliospheric Imager-1 space telescope photographed a huge coronal mass ejection (CME) streaming from the sun, and the so-called "cloaked spaceship" is just an artefact, like plenty of other such artefacts in such space images.

Ufologist Guillermo Giménez suspects strange objects being reported over Argentina recently may have been a new UAV:
"Since June 2011, the Argentinean army has been testing the LIPAN III UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) over the Campo the Mayo region and the INTI. It is possible that what is been seen are the navigation lights of this small unconventional device. There is considerable information regarding this Army project as well as the prototypes being tested by the Navy (Proyecto Guardián) and even others by the Air Force (hitherto secret and unnamed)."
"Based on informal conversations with witnesses some time ago, the descriptions lead me to believe that the UAV is the most reasonable explanation."

Exobiology journal Astrobiology discusses changes in the way in which livable or inhabited exoplanets can be found. NASA and SETI Institute scientists propose to get rid of some anthropocentrists bias.
For example, they note that exobiologists do not exclude any more the possibility that there is life on Titan although it has no liquid water. It is speculated indeed that the hydrocarbon lakes on Titan could allow a form of life similar to extremophile bacteria in the oil wells on Earth. If liquid water isn't a condition of habitability in the solar system anymore, there is no reason that it should be elsewhere.
Scientists thus propose refined criteria. First a similarity to Earth index taking of account the orbital ray, the size and the temperature. According to this index, a planet like Gliese 581D would be regarded as similar to Earth. The second criterion would be an index of planetary habitability including a stable substrate, an energy source, a suitable chemistry, and the presence of a liquid solvent, which would not necessarily be water anymore.
Last year already, physicist Paul Davies, who discreetly showed some open mindedness towards ufology, director of SETI since 2005 and professor of physics at the Arizona State University, explained in his book "Strange silence: Are We Alone?" that we should change methods if we want to detect an extraterrestrial civilization.
He proposed for example to seek on Earth micro-organisms comeing from space or to seek anomalies in the galaxy like the absence of energy particles, which could mean that they were used by a life form. He said that "we should start to examine the solar system and our area of the galaxy in the search of clues of past or present cosmic activity by using methods going from genomic to neutrinos physics."
