Someone reported anonymously to a UFO website the following experience, indicating Strasbourg as place, June 7, 2014 as date, and 11:30 p.m. as time, and that it was a "possible abduction" abd tat he would like to understand what happened:
"I was in bed trying to fall asleep. That's when I heard a noise. A thud. It is from then on that I no longer distinguish dreams from reality. Yet the transition from wakefulness to REM sleep is longer. In short, I feel myself transported and find myself in a small wood. I think I recognize the woods near my home. This is where I see a being of small size, about 1 m 40, deep black almond-shaped eyes, a large head, holding my hand. The detail here is confused, either it holds my hand or touches my wrist with a finger. It speaks but does not move the lips. His words are "come with us, do not worry, we will not do you any harm." I resist, the words become more pressing, "come on move on". I distinguish two smaller ones on my right, at a meter. I seriously began to discuss it, I think very strongly, but my strength is diminishing. So they drag me away on a distance that I could not estimate, walking, it was like I could not not do it. This is where a white light dazzles me, it is very strong. A taller being, about my size, stands before. Another small being stands on his right. He looks unhappy, but I feel this thing is female. I cannot really describe it but it's like I felt myself drawn to 'her'."
"And finally, I come to them. This is where my memory stops."
"At first, I thought of a dream, but this memory is so persistent. I looked at some stuff about the abductions, it is close enough. I would just like to understand what it is."

Everything points to the explanation: a hypnagogic hallucination episode.
There, the triggering stimulus is the noise, probably a real noise, in the home or outside, causing the partial exit of the dream state to a half-awoken dream.
A state the experiencer is somehow aware: he was falling asleep, and "At first I thought of a dream." The persistence of memory does not mean that it was not a dream. What motivates the person making such an experience to report is a very odd is that he was half-awake during the experience; so there is the feeling that it is abnormally vivid for a dream, although less real than if it had happened in the normal awaken state. I am particularly aware of this, as it happened to me once; the irony of the situation was that as a ufologist, I was fully realizing it was a hypnagogic hallucination during the experience...
I provide a few references among dozens about the topic of hypnagogic hallucination and sleep paralysis:
