On October 25, 2009 the British tabloid Daily Express publishes on their website a video coming from a survey camera set up next to a Bristol pub. The tabloid proposes that the video shows a "ghoul" or a ghost. At least one ufology website mentions it as being a "luminous alien".
The night video shows a luminous spot moving generally seen when a car drives by with its headlights on.

GHOULS ON FILM?Sunday October 25 2009 by James Fielding SECURITY cameras across Britain are picking up alarming new images that are scaring staff stiff. Ghostly figures and inexplicable lights are being caught on film in stately homes, pubs, shops and even a fire station. Twice this year staff at Croxteth Hall in Merseyside have spotted a mysterious glowing figure gliding around the grounds. The yellow form emerges from trees and heads along a path towards the empty Queen Anne wing of the building before vanishing. The hall's general manager Irene Vickers, 59, said: "The first film was recorded in March and the second was taken at the end of August but both pieces of footage are remarkably similar." Blue lights were seen outside the The Fire Engine pub in Bristol city centre. A thirsty spook seems to dash into the Fire Engine pub in Bristol before closing time. They momentarily merged to form what looks like the top half of a man before drifting apart and darting across screen. At busy Euston fire station in central London staff believe they are visited by the ghost of one of the 13 firemen who have died on duty since the building opened 107 years ago. Mobile phone pictures show a white figure in the dormitory and one firefighter said: "They are still here. They are here in visitation. Things have been heard for years." In Wilmslow, Cheshire, CCTV caught a strange orb shattering a mirror in empty nightclub toilets. *** DO YOU HAVE UNEXPLAINED PICTURES OF GHOSTS OR UFOS? SEND THEM IN SO WE CAN INVESTIGATE. [Ref. cm1:] CHRISTIAN MACE:
French ufologist Christan Macé published the case as a news item on his blog, headlining that it is a "paranormal UFO phenomenon" and "a luminous alien":
The video shows that the so-called "ghoul" or "alien" or "UFO" - depending on the one or other eccentric interpretations - generally appears when a car passes in the street, never when no vehicle passes. The agreement is almost perfect, although on some occasions a car passes without causing a "ghoul".
The reason with that can be quite simple. For example: for protection against raindrops which could hit directly the camera's objective and scramble the image completely, the camera is protected by a pane. Nobody indeed would be stupid enough to set up outside monitoring cameras in rainy country without thinking of protecting the objective against rain drops.
So the rain reaches this pane, but the drops touching this pane are not frozen, they end up slipping down along the pane and the reflections which they cause can then change or disappear from one moment to another.
This kind of so-called "paranormal" phenomena appear regularly in the British tabloid press. The readers, due, do not necessarily take it for granted, knowing that tabloids are no advisable sources to seek "evidence of the paranormal". The "readers comments" of the Daily Express website, actually, show what it really was: almost all the comments are from readers who understood that they were simple reflections. And the journalist himself is perhaps not his own fool, as the question mark in the headline suggests.
Some ufologists unfortunately do not have enough cultural background to take it with the necessary grain of salt, and lack the minimal competence allowing to distinguish or at least suspect commonplace explanations, even when they are as obvious as here, and not only prefer to "believe" without thinking but also, under their wishful dreams, they call "alien" or "UFO" anything which they do not understand, just like others call it "ghosts" or "ghouls".
