According to a "weird news" agency of the Internet, towards mid-September 2007, in Gemeni in Romania, a score of villagers were heard by police officers about their sighting of a flying character who resembled Superman.
According to the statements which are all similar, the character flew above their houses in his shining blue outfit, in upright position, at a speed described as normal, at approximately 100 meters above the ground, without any sound nor smoke.
It does not seem that it was considered that the flying Superman could have been simply a party balloon imprinted and in the shape of the famous comic strip character.

Under the headline "Police probe 'Superman' sighting", the weird news agency indicates that the Police are investigating after almost 20 villagers, from Gemeni, Mehedinti county, Romania, claimed to have seen a Superman-like figure flying through the sky, wearing a shiny blue suit.
The Police officers took written statements from all of the witnesses and say they described the figure in the same way.
A local policeman, Ion Anuta is quoted:
"We talked to people of different ages who are all reliable citizens in our village.
"They all said they saw this strange creature who flew over their houses in his shiny blue costume. We'll just have to see what happens next."
Villager Constantin Toader, 41, is quoted:
"He looked like Superman and was flying slowly at about 100 yards from the ground in a standing position. He didn't make any smoke or sound. Just cruising around."

In the source code of the Ananova web news brief, a commented out line indicates that the story was "filed: 10:57 Thursday 20th September 2007".

Addendum September 26, 2007 - A ufologist reader of this file informs me that a contact in Romania told him that although he does not watchTV at all, and does not read the tabloid Press, he reads an electronic newspaper every morning and did not see anything of this affair; he asked colleagues and nobody heard about it either, although he estimates that such an affair should have been in all the newspapers.
