Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Bud Hopkins, the well-known US ufologist who mostly studies "alien abductions" by hypnosis, is quoted as source in two ufology catalogues and a book on "alien abductions", about a report of an event on November 15, 1978, which allegedly occurred in East Islip, in the State of New York, USA.

A worker in electronics of about 20 years age drove by car in the night, at 6 p.m., when a flash of light made him lose consciousness.

Later in the night, he reportedly remembered by flashback that five small beings with gray skin and large black eyes came to his car, lowered the window, then took him along somewhere, examined him and made him walk through a strange environment.

His next memory, which is said to be a conscious memory, was to sit near the road but not near his car, with his clothes in disarray, his shoes untied, his shirt buttoned the wrong way. It is said his memory was so troubled that he could not even remember his wife's name or his phone number.

Donald Johnson says that on November 15, 1978, an electronics worker in his twenties was driving his car in East Islip, New York on this same night at 6 p.m. when a flash of light led to a period of unconsciousness. Later than night he recalled in flashbacks that five beings came to his car and pushed down the window. They then took him somewhere, examined him and walked him through a strange, unusual environment. His next conscious memory was of sitting by the road nowhere near his car. His clothes were in disarray, his shoes untied, and his shirt buttoned improperly. At first his memory was so impaired that he could not even remember the name of his wife or his telephone number.

Donald Johnson indicates that the source is Budd Hopkins, "UFO Abductions: The invisible epidemic," in MUFON Symposium Proceedings 1981, p. 45.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in East Islip, Long Island, New York, on November 15, 1978, at 1800, the witness was driving when a flash of light apparently rendered him unconscious, later that night he remembered five short gray skinned beings with large black eyes that approached the car then pushed down the window, he was then examined and walked through an unusual environment apparently to determine his endurance or stamina. The witness later found himself on the side of the road far from his car.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "Thomas E Bullard, UFO Abductions the Measure Of A mystery."

Points to consider:

The brief summary in unclear on some aspects. For example, as his "next memory", said to be a conscious memory, was to sit near the road, it may be that all the previous memories of the alien encounter was induced by hypnosis sessions; which could have created the false memories of the "typical greys" aliens.
