Australian ufologist Keith Basterfield found an article of the local newspaper Rodney & Waitemata Times for February 1, 1978, reporting an event in Warkworth, New Zealand, in January 1978, by night:

A young couple reportedly made a flashlight flicker towards a light in the sky, and it allegedly came down to land 50 meters away of them.

The thing was described as round, a saucer, whose door opened. A 2 to 2.30 meters tall figure stood there.

The witness waved at the entity, who waved in return, then the door closed and the object rose and left.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Warkworth, New Zealand, on January 1978, at night, a young couple saw a bright light in the sky. They shone a flashing light at it and it quickly descended and landed nearby. It was a glowing silvery saucer shaped craft. A door opened and a very tall figure stood there. The witnesses then waved at the figure that then waved back. The door then closed and the craft rose and left.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "Keith Basterfield, Mufon Journal #177."
