Brazilian newspaper Noticias Populares seems to have reported that in Serra Branca, Paraiba, Brazil, on May 10, 1977, at 11:00 a.m., 3.5 years old Maria do Socorro, accompanying her grandmother to do the laundry, vanished suddenly and was gone for 22 hours, then unexpectedly turned up at the doorway to her family's garden.
She said she had seen a beautiful woman with a white scarf on her head, and was irresistibly attracted to a strong beam of light, which she ran behind. The woman spoke to the child but she "did not open her mouth to talk."
Friends and neighbors spent the entire day searching the area where she had last been seen, without finding a trace. Although no UFO was seen, it was apparently assumed by all involved that it was an abduction by extraterrestrial visitors, and thus the case entered the David Webb and Ted Bloecher catalogue.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:
Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Serra Branca, Paraiba, Brazil, on May 10, 1977, at 11:00 a.m., 3.5 year old Maria do Socorro, accompanying her grandmother to do the laundry, vanished suddenly and was gone for 22 hours, when she unexpectedly turned up at the doorway to her family's garden. She said she had seen a beautiful woman with a white scarf on her head, and was irresistibly attracted to a strong beam of light, which she ran behind. The woman spoke to the child but she "did not open her mouth to talk." Friends and neighbors spent the entire day searching the area where she had last been seen, without finding a trace. The child mysteriously turned up at the family's home. It was assumed by all involved that the phenomenon was of an apparently extraterrestrial intervention. No object was seen.
Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Brazilian newspaper, Noticias Populares, and Humcat 1977-26.
[Ref. dj1:] DONALD JOHNSON:
Donald Johnson indicates that on May 10, 1977, a three and a half year old girl, Maria do Socorro, had accompanied her grandmother while she did laundry in Serra Branca, Paraiba state, Brazil and then vanished suddenly at around 11:00 a.m. She was missing for 22 hours. She mysteriously turned up at the doorsteps of her family's garden. She said she had seen a beautiful woman with a white scarf on her head and was irresistibly attracted to a strong beam of light which the lady ran behind. The lady spoke to the child but she "did not open her mouth to talk." Friends and neighbors spent an entire day searching the area where she had last been seen, without finding a trace. It was assumed by all involved that the phenomenon had an apparently extraterrestrial cause, but no UFO was seen.
The source is indicated as David F. Webb and Ted Bloecher, HUMCAT: Catalogue of Humanoid Reports, case 1977-26, citing Noticias Populares, a Brazilian newspaper.
It is blatantly in error to take at face value the testimony of a 3.5 years old; and even more absurd to think she was abducted by aliens when she described no extraterrestrial craft and no extraterrestrial beings at all.
