This case has no clear primary source, web catalogues giving Denys Breysse and CNEGU's catalogues as sources; CNEGU indicating that their possible or probable explanation is that it was the Moon.
In July or August 1976, at 8 p.m. in Weyersheim, Bas-Rhin, "Three women were taking a stroll when they noticed a red sphere of light in the sky just west of their location. It then hovered not too far from the ground and it seemed to have numerous luminous filaments or beams of light shining towards the ground. There also appeared to be numerous little “men” milling about on the ground under the object. Soon the truncated beams of light appeared to retract inside the object and the little figures vanished. The craft then also disappeared."
CNEGU provides another summary, dating the case in summer, July or August. Three women from Weyersheim in the Bas-Rhin going to church for the 8 p.m. mass saw a red glow in the sky in the direction of Bietlenheim in the West. A motionless irregular shape let "strings" hang down, fitted with "little guys", to the ground. The "strings" go up back in the shape one after the other and the phenomenon disappeared on the spot after two minutes.
The source given by CNEGU is a "report of G. Koeberle, LDLN investigator in 1977" in the "ONA Archive".

French ufologist Denis Breysse had undertaken between 1978 and 1985 a project of paper cards and computer encoded catalog, on Amstrad CPC464 and then on a PC, of close encounters of the 3rd kind, explained or not, "Project Bécassine", "to try to better understand the phenomenon of CE3 through further mathematical studies." A computer case record was limited to 128 characters. This work is not published.
The CNEGU ("Northeast Committee of Ufology Groups") catalog, partially published in LDLN, is about sighting reports in the northeast of France, explained or not. They write the case off as "probable or possible" Moon.
How could CNEGU decide the "Moon" was as "probable or possible" explanation for a case that does not even have a date? What about the explanation for the "little men" hanging on "strings"? Why could it not rather be a "probable or possible" helicopter?
The Haguenau airfield has its strip at 7.5 km from Weyersheim. At 8 p.m. in the Summer, it is daylight. Did the ladies see a helicopter and its crew? A helicopter that landed its crew there due to a technical problem? Or was this a military or police drill, landing officers with cables? At face value, the story seems too strange for that, but how reliable is the documentation, is it credible?
