MARCH 1974, NOGARO-EN-ARMAGNAC, GERS, FRANCE, A MAN:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

In 1977, a newspaper collected statements of a man, 25 years old approximately, who had just settled in Toulouse, and he told them his experience that he had concealed so far by fear of the ridicule.

The man reported that in March 1974, whereas he was manager of a restaurant in Fleurance-du-Gers, after having closed the place, had gone by car to Laujuzan, close to Nogaro, to see his fiancee who was now his wife.

While going back at 03:00 a.m. by car, driving at a speed of 90 km/h, in the exit of a curve, the vehicle stopped by itself, without him having used the brakes.

He was seized with tremors, and saw a being that was neither a man nor a known animal, standing upright, measuring approximately 90 centimeters. The being was biped with very large feet and had the arms so long that the witness could not distinguish if it had hands.

At the time when the car stopped, this being was turning its back at him, and immediately, it moved towards the ditch in which it descended, so that only the higher half of its body remained visible.

The being was entirely green, it had pointed ears on the top of cranium, and very black eyes. When it finally looked at the man, the latter felt "like a wave", followed of two others, very soon, inside his head, and he then became very frightened and looked away.

A little later the car's engine restarted, he made half-turn, drove back to Nogaro, saw that there was of course nobody in the streets, drove again the road towards Fleurance approximately 80 kilometers from there. He arrived there without having noticed anything strange, he did not see any UFO nor any weird gleam.

He was certain that the being he saw was extraterrestrial being, but wondering whether he had been the victim of an hallucination, he went to a doctor in Tarbes the next day. This doctor made him undergo a neuro-ophthalmologic examination and an electroencephalogram, and the witness noted that he was thus declared normal.

The newspaperman indicates that he saw the photocopies of the results of these medical examinations and the conclusion of the doctor: "the expression of nervousness of the patient can be generated by the experience which he lived, but his reasoning is perfectly lucid, and his behavior is normal."

[Ref. dm1:] LA DEPECHE DU MIDI:

Three years later, a resident of the Gers claims:

"My car was stopped by an alien near Nogaro"

Now living in Toulouse, a mang aged approximately 25, saw three years ago the after-effects of what he would like to regard as a bad dream.

By fear of the ridicule, he kept silent during all this time, but now he agrees to speak, and here is what he told us:

"It was in March 1974. I was, at the time, the manager of a restaurant in Fleurance-du-Gers. After having closed the place, I had gone to Laujuzan, close to Nogaro, by car, to see my fiancee, who is now my wife.

"On the return trip, around three o'clock in the morning, whereas I drove at 90 km/h, my car stopped all alone, without I even used the brakes, at the exit of a curve.

"I was taken with tremors, and there, I saw a being, which was not a man, neither a known animal: it stood upright, measured 90 centimetres, was biped - its "feet" were very large - and it had the arms so long that I could not distinguish if it had hands.

"At the time when my car stopped, it was turning its back at me. But immediately after, it moved towards the ditch in which it descended, only the higher half of its body remaining visible.

"It was entirely green, had pointed ears on the top of the cranium, and very black eyes. When it finally looked at me, I felt like a wave, followed of two others, very close, inside my head. I then was really afraid, and I looked elsewhere.

"A little later, my engine restarted. I made a half-turn, and I drove back to Nogaro. But, at that hour, there was of course nobody in the streets. I thus took again the road to Fleurance, about 80 kilometers from there, where I arrived without having noticed anything strange.

"I did not see a U.f.o., nor any suspicious gleam. But I am convinced that what I saw was an extraterrestrial being.

Obviously, I wondered whether I had been the victim of an hallucination, and the next day I went to see a doctor in Tarbes. He made me undergo a neuro-ophthalmologic examination and an electroencephalogram. This reveals that I am normal."

As a matter of fact, we saw the photocopies of the results of these examinations and the conclusion of the doctor. "The expression of nervosity of the patient can be caused by the experience he went through, but his reasoning is perfectly lucid, and his behavior is normal."

What to conclude from this testimony? Obviously, the "little green men", since the time they are discussed, are a bit of a cliché.

But on the other hand, if such beings exist, who is to say that they should be tall and purple?

(Jean-Luc Rivera is the source of these items submitted by Ted Bloecher: Translations by Lex Mebane. Summarized by Mildred Biesele.)

Depeche du Midi, June 3, 1977; also Midi Libre, June 4, 1977, Toulouse: In March, 1974, a man who now lives in Toulouse relates that he was driving back to Fleurance-du-Gers from Laujuzen (near Nogaro) at about 3:00 AM when, rounding a curve on the road, his car stopped for no apparent reason. Ahead of him he saw a creature about 90 cm in height, a biped with very large feet and with arms so long that he "could not tell whether it had any hands." When first seen the creature was standing with its back towards the car, but it immediately moved down - into a ditch beside the road so that only the upper half of the body was visible. "He was all green," said the witness, "had pointed ears on the top of his head, and very black eyes." Soon the motor started and the witness drove on. He saw no UFO, no strange lights. The next day, still disturbed by what he had seen, the witness went to his doctor for a neuro-opthalmological examination and an electroencephalogram. He was found to be normal, although nervous.

[Ref. fr1:] MICHEL FIGUET ET JEAN-LOUIS RUCHON:

The authors indicates that in March 1974 around 3 hours 25 years an anonymous motorist, manager of a restaurant with Fleurance-du-Gers returned from Nogaro by car, driving at 90 km/h, when his engine stopped by itself.

It was seized in tremors and saw a standing being of small size and of green color, biped, with very large feet, with arms so long that he could not distinguish the hands, with pointed ears on the top of cranium and eyes very black.

The being turning its back at the witness moved towards the ditch in which he went down and only the higher half of its body remained visible. When it finally looked at the witness, the latter felt like a wave followed of two others very close, he took fear and looked elsewhere.

A little later the engine of the car restarted, he made a half-turn and went back to Nogaro where he arrived without seeing anything strange.

By fear of the ridicule, he revealed his experience only in 1977.

The authors note that the next day, he went to see a doctor in Tarbes who had him undergo a neuro-ophthalmologic examination and an electroencephalogram from where it turned out that he was normal.

They comment that the description of the being is morphologically similar "to the moving shapes of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, U.S.A., 08/22/1955", and that it is the first case which they discovered - for France - in which a green being is described.

The authors indicate that the sources are La Dépêche du Midi for June 3, 1977, Le Républicain Lorrain for June 4, 1977, "V.E.R.O.N.I.C.A., #8, page 21. and "U.F.O. Info" of the Belgian ufology group G.E.S.A.G..

In an extract of his Francat catalogue, Michel Figuet recorded:

Case #: 534
Classification: CE3a
Date: .. 03.1974
Time: 03:00
Place: Laujuzan Nogaro
Zip code: 32110 B2
Credibility sources: RS D OVNI: p. 462 P

Points to consider:

The only primary and source for this case is the article of the newspaper La Dépêche du Midi. All the other sources derive from it. As the witness remained anonymous, the newspaper article represents the totality of the documentation on the case as long as the witness or the journalists who saw him do not come forward.

The analogy evoked by Figuet and Ruchon with the "creatures" of the Kelly-Hopkinsville case is not reliable, the testimony in this case not being fully descriptive and no drawing of the being is available. There are notable differences between descriptions in the two cases. And, should it be pointed out, the entities of the case of Kelly-Hopkinsville were not green.

The reported events, in spite of the absence of observation of any UFO, are of high strangeness; unfortunately, the anonymity of the witness and the time elapsed reduce to very little the chances of investigation.
